Well Said

dU Can Do It Better Than That Preacher Boy!
by Paul Peavy

You can do IT better than that there preacher boy! Whoa now, you might be saying "He just produced his second offspring how are you so sure I can do IT better than the preacher?" Get your minds out of the gutter. What I'm talking about is that you can actually be a better witness than any church staff member ever could.

If you ever heard me introduce myself I will sometimes mention that I am a proud New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary... dropout. Why am I proud of that? Because I understand I was trying to do something that was acceptable to humanoids but something God really didn't have in mind for me. What I did learn is that when people think you are a pastor or church staff member they change their words, their actions, and their attitudes when they are around you.

So people are more genuine when they are around you when you are at work or play than they will be around a church staff member. They think a pastor or a church staff member is "supposed to" act a certain way. It might be baffling to them as to why you would give money to the homeless, not return put down for put down, not gossip or turn the other cheek when someone wrongs you. That would truly fascinate a person who does not understand that Christ died for us regular Joes. Jesus said, "I will make you fishers of men," because that was a common occupation and he died for common people.  Today he might change that to "I will make you cleaner uppers of greasy tar ball type people," but the point is he wants you just as you are to talk to the people he has put into your life about how the Son of God died for their sins. Simple. You don't have to be a New Orleans Baptist Theological...dropout...to understand that.

About The Well

The Well is a church that is committed to connecting with the unchurched community of Tallahassee. It is the desire of the Well to create an atmosphere that is engaging to this generation in the twenty-first century. While the culture of Tallahassee is always changing, we believe that the message of Jesus Christ is as relevant today as it was 2,000 years ago. The Well is a church that will speak an everlasting truth in an ever-changing culture.
