Well Said
by Dave Griffiths Moving to Tallahassee from Bozeman, Montana in mid January this year
was easy for me in some ways. I made the move for a better job in a
bigger city that's at least a little closer to my hometown (½ hour south
of Philadelphia in Wilmington, Delaware). Okay, so it's not that close,
but the flights are cheaper. All that and add Tallahassee is a place
where people think 40 degrees is cold? Sign me up!
Even with all those positives, I was still nervous about this big
change in my life. Since signing my contract here at ABC 27 and all the
way through the move (even through my first week in town), I felt some
serious pangs of doubt. I had built some very meaningful friendships and
was part of a great church over my two and a half years in Montana. I
wondered if I had made the right decision. Should I have stayed in the
cold a while longer?
God gave a quick answer to my questions in an amazing way the first
time I walked into The Well's Wednesday night Community Group. I met
someone who grew up not 10 minutes from me in Delaware, someone else was
wearing a Syracuse Orange hat (my alma mater), and still a third person
had a sister who lives in Montana and actually went to the same church I
did out there. On the drive home, as I was marveling at the chances of
meeting people with connections to all three places where I've spent
considerable time in my life, I realized God was answering my concerns
about this big life change. It was like He was saying directly to me --
"Dave, I took care of you growing up in Delaware. I took care of you in
college at Syracuse. I took care of you in Montana. What makes you think
I'd do anything differently now?"
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever (Hebrews 13:8).
He's the same in Delaware, Montana, and Florida. He's the same at Godby
High School and at our new building on Capital Circle. No matter where I
lay my head at night, I know by trusting in Him, He will make my paths
straight (Proverbs 3:5-6).
"To be certain of God means that we are uncertain in all our ways,
not knowing what tomorrow may bring. This is generally expressed with a
sigh of sadness, but it should be an expression of breathless
expectation. We are uncertain of the next step, but we are certain of
God" (Oswald Chambers).
