The Well
This Sunday

Since the beginning of the year, we've been on a journey looking at who Jesus is. But after he lived, died, and rose again, now what? What has He called us to do next? This Sunday, Dean continues our new series: "What's Next?" and will reference Deuteronomy 10.

Well Said

by Jeremy Button

I've been thinking lately about how much I listen to God. I don't sit still and be quiet enough. I started thinking about it more after I heard the story of the man who found the 11-year old girl who had been lost for 4 days in the swampland of central Florida. This man searched for the girl on Monday (day 3) with a group but didn't find her. The group was set to meet to search again on Tuesday mid-morning, but the man said God told him to get up early and go east. After hiking in water up to his waist for about two hours he found her.

Sometimes God speaks very clearly to us, sometimes He gently guides us and sometimes we don't hear Him at all. It's no mystery to me that the times I hear Him the least are the times that I am not listening enough. So much of my day is filled with an iPod, radio, TV, surfing the web, reading, or talking to people. Psalm 46 says "Be still, and know that I am God". Being still in today's world requires great effort and purpose, but yields incredible results. Thinking back to the man that found the girl, he listened, obeyed and in doing so, was able to be a huge part of God's will for that girl's life.

Luckily for God, He doesn't need me to do His will. It gets done regardless of whether I help or not. How awesome it is when I get to be a part of what He is doing though. Once again, the more I listen, the more I get to be a part of what He has happening.  When I can see my role in His work, it is so encouraging; it creates a stronger desire to listen more. Make a point of it to be still this week, and know that God is God.
