The Well is a church that is committed to connecting with the unchurched community of Tallahassee. It is the desire of the Well to create an atmosphere that is engaging to this generation in the twenty-first century. While the culture of Tallahassee is always changing, we believe that the message of Jesus Christ is as relevant today as it was 2,000 years ago. The Well is a church that will speak an everlasting truth in an ever-changing culture.

"For the single most important institution shaping Western culture is the university. It is at the university that our future political leaders, our journalists, our teachers, our business executives, our lawyers, our artists, will be trained. It is at the university that they will formulate or, more likely, simply absorb the worldview that will shape their lives. And since these are the opinion-makers and leaders who shape our culture, our worldview that they imbibe at the university will be the one that shapes our culture. If the Christian worldview can be restored to a place of prominence and respect at the university, it will have a leavening effect throughout society. If we change the university, we change our culture through those who shape culture." (Moreland & Craig)

WELL SAID
"The Ice Tea Dilemma" by Marty Stubblefield

d As Dean goes through the "Character Assassins" series, I am taken back by how the little things can add up, can lead to weaknesses, and can lead to chinks in the armor.  I am taken back by how little things and can lead to big things and how little cracks in the mortar can lead to holes in the dam and thus peril for all those downsteam.

I'm reminded of the lunch time dilemma and how easy it would be to order the $1 Sweet Tea to go with my $1 fries and $1 Double Cheeseburger. However, instead of choosing to pour the tea I paid for, dispensing the more expensive Coca-Cola.

I can justify it - after all it's just Coke. Isn't it?

I can justify it by the time I had to wait. After all, my time is worth something. Isn't it?

I can justify it due to the poor customer service I received. After all, service, or the lack there of, is worth something. Isn't it?

But if Abbie, my rule following middle daughter, were there with me would it be that easy for me to justify? Would that be the kind of lesson that I would want to teach her or show her (much less my other two girls)?

"Honey, it is OK if Daddy does it but not you or anyone else. It's not really stealing. It's justification."

Kind of like President Nixon's response to David Frost's question: "It's not a crime if the President does it..."

Hmmm...

King David's issue with Bathsheba didn't start when he slept with her, got her pregnant and then did all that he did to cover it up. No, it started long before that.

It started when he chose to stay home from war in a season when good kings lead their troops to war.

It started with a glance... a look... a lusting in his heart.

It started when there was no accountability to anyone for his actions.

He was the king and the king could do or have what ever he wanted. Couldn't he?

The thought is that if David's best friend Jonathan had been around... had been living... that he would have stopped the craziness before it ever started. Jonathan would have nipped it in the bud.

As his friend, Jonathan would have questioned why the king was staying home while his men were on the battlefield.

As his friend, Jonathan would have wondered why David was spending so much time on his balcony gazing at another man's wife when he had king-business to do and wives of his own.

As his friend, Jonathan would have questioned David's desires and actions, and challenged him to take them to the Lord.

As his friend, Jonathan would have questioned David and brought him back to his senses... back to reality

But alas, Jonathan was no longer there having died in another battle.

And David was alone.

Bill Hybels once suggested that "Character is who you are when no one else is around."

Who are we when know one is around... Ice Tea or Coca-Cola?

Keep the Faith... Carpe Diem
