The Well is a church that is committed to connecting with the unchurched community of Tallahassee. It is the desire of the Well to create an atmosphere that is engaging to this generation in the twenty-first century. While the culture of Tallahassee is always changing, we believe that the message of Jesus Christ is as relevant today as it was 2,000 years ago. The Well is a church that will speak an everlasting truth in an ever-changing culture.

"For the single most important institution shaping Western culture is the university. It is at the university that our future political leaders, our journalists, our teachers, our business executives, our lawyers, our artists, will be trained. It is at the university that they will formulate or, more likely, simply absorb the worldview that will shape their lives. And since these are the opinion-makers and leaders who shape our culture, our worldview that they imbibe at the university will be the one that shapes our culture. If the Christian worldview can be restored to a place of prominence and respect at the university, it will have a leavening effect throughout society. If we change the university, we change our culture through those who shape culture." (Moreland & Craig)

WELL SAID
"Lions" by Dean Inserra

d I think lions are awesome animals. When Krissie and I lived in Louisville we made regular visits to the zoo. The Lions always held my attention longer than any other animal we would see. There is just something about that beast of an animal that fascinated me.

When I think of lions a few things come to mind:

The Lion King: I am anti cartoon movies (if you are over 9 years old you should join me), but this one might have been the best.

The Detroit Lions: How in the world do you finish the season with an 0-16 record? Pathetic! I might take USC (I think they could beat Oklahoma and Florida) in a close game vs. Detroit. Or maybe I should take Utah!

The Leon Lions: I am a proud graduate of Tallahassee's greatest school. We have a pretty strong crowd of Leon grads at the Well.

The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe. Very cool book and movie.

Satan.

Satan? Yep.

Satan.

1 Peter 5:8 describes Satan as a lion who is prowling around looking for someone to devour. The book of 1 Peter is written to believers so that warning is directed to us! It is the people who believe in Christ that Satan wants to destroy.

Thankfully, we have victory in Christ and therefore we have already and can continue to triumph over Satan. However, there are times we allow the lion-like devil to get the best of us. This is usually in areas of our character and integrity.

Many who have grown up in the Church were raised on the faulty Southern value of appearing to be okay. As long as you looked good on the outside, sat next to Granny at Church, made sure Betty the piano player didn't see you drink, smoke, or cuss and gave proper answers in Sunday School...you were good to go.

Satan attacks us like a lion when no one is looking. Character and integrity are matters of the heart. The devil desires to tear us down and defeat us in our daily representation of Christ. As people who claim to follow Christ we must refuse to allow Satan to get a piece of our lives when he attacks and this often requires a fight.

Over the next few weeks at the Well we will be in a series called "Character Assassins." In this series we will look at the different things Satan uses to destroy our character and how we can defeat him for the Glory of Christ. I am pumped up and truly need to hear it.

Christ calls all of us to honor Him in our marriages, parenting, schoolwork, jobs, relationships, desires and overall lives. Satan wants us to do the opposite.

We have the victory in Christ. He is the One the book of Revelation calls the Lion of the Tribe of Judah. Let us live for the true Lion together and not let the fraud of one destroy the very depths of our hearts, our character that has been redeemed to honor Christ.

See you Sunday as we take on Character Assassins together.
