The Well is a church that is committed to connecting with the unchurched community of Tallahassee. It is the desire of the Well to create an atmosphere that is engaging to this generation in the twenty-first century. While the culture of Tallahassee is always changing, we believe that the message of Jesus Christ is as relevant today as it was 2,000 years ago. The Well is a church that will speak an everlasting truth in an ever-changing culture.

"For the single most important institution shaping Western culture
is the university. It is at the university that our future political
leaders, our journalists, our teachers, our business executives, our
lawyers, our artists, will be trained. It is at the university that
they will formulate or, more likely, simply absorb the worldview that
will shape their lives. And since these are the opinion-makers and
leaders who shape our culture, our worldview that they imbibe at the
university will be the one that shapes our culture. If the Christian
worldview can be restored to a place of prominence and respect at the
university, it will have a leavening effect throughout society. If we
change the university, we change our culture through those who shape
culture." (Moreland & Craig)

WELL SAID
"Love, Actually" by Julia Kronholz
When someone asks me, as a Christian, what I believe, my answer is quite simple. Love. I know, I even rolled my eyes as I typed that - I'm typically not your mushy gushy type of girl. But I'm not talking about red hearts and puppy love. I'm not talking about the love between Kate & Leonardo on the Titanic. I'm not talking about Celine Dion's greatest hits. The love I believe in - and the love I believe God calls us to show to each other - is the divine love which is utterly shameless, uninhibited, and limitless.
With all the controversy surrounding the world today, our culture expects anyone with a particular belief or agenda to be able to boldly defend whatever it is they believe. As one of the most scrutinized groups, Christians ensure we are armed for this - equipped with bible verses, personal stories, and the catchphrases we hear from sermons and in Christian books we read, all to bolster our testimony. We toil with our small groups over a few verses for hours on end, dissect different meanings for one certain word, and sit at coffee shops with fellow believers to discuss exactly how we should live our lives for Christ.
My question is this: Have we missed the point? Can we not see the forest through the trees? Are we so caught up with the intricate details of our beliefs that we miss what God urgently wants us to comprehend?
Yes, I think so. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely think it is essential to have a deep understanding of the Bible, the Truth of the Gospel, and Christian principles, but I also think we need to continuously remind ourselves of the big picture God has painted for us. To me, this picture is love. If after accepting His love, we do nothing more on this earth but love His creation in its entirety, I believe we've fulfilled God's purpose for us. Take a moment to imagine that. How would it look if, without hope or agenda, we divinely loved each other? How differently would we live?
I have a friend that divinely loves. When I see her, whether it has been one day or one year, she hugs me so tightly that I literally lose my breath. When we are together, she is entirely invested in my company and nothing takes her attention away from my words - not her Blackberry, not the people surrounding us, not her own mental checklist. At that moment, I am the most important person to her. Her mother, her husband, her boss, the doorman, her competition at the other advertising agency in town, the barista at Starbucks, the ticket man in the subway, the people that are just hard to love....she fully loves them all. Because of the way she chooses to love, she is liberated from so many things that cripple our walk as Christians - jealousy, insecurity, selfishness, gossip, hatred and pride. Her unbridled loving spirit is incredibly revitalizing. I pray daily that God releases the chains from my heart that keep me from loving so freely, like my friend.
I'm not suggesting we go around giving each other bear hugs and whispering "I Love You." What I am praying is that we shatter the walls we have created in our hearts, the insecurities we've made in our mind, and the shame we have formed in our souls to divinely love - in our individual way of expressing love - all of God's creations. To love our family, friends, and foes. The broken and the broke. Prisoners of addiction, prisoners of poverty, prisoners of the law. To love the conservatives, the liberals, those that have everything to offer and those that have seemingly nothing to offer. Past boyfriends and past girlfriends, current best friends, and future strangers that will soon become friends. The liars, the hypocrites, the lost. To love the helpless, the hopeless, the homeless, the homo and the hetero.
My earnest wish this New Year for me and for you, my friends, is for God to set us free from our timidity. May He consume our hearts and allow His divine love to shine thorough all His deserving creations on earth. May He remove our chains so that we begin to comprehend His love and become a reflection of Christ day by day.
