WELL SAID
"Run-On Sentence" by Matt Long

My friends remind me quite often of how when I write, I never seem to end a thought...they would say that most of the time my sentences are just separated by a breath, usually symbolized by "..." or a comma.   In the event I had to end a sentence, they would say I make a point to put a exclamation mark to make sure that everyone knows that I really mean it, or I want to imply that I must have been having the best time of my life at that very moment...do you have friends like that?  Funny thing is, my entire life has been just that...ONE BIG run-on sentence, and it's been amazing!

After growing up in Tallahassee and receiving a "three year/two year degree" at TCC, my two best friends and I packed up our cars and headed out west and landed in Colorado. Each one of us knew that God had placed a crazy desire within us to spread his word any way we could, and for that year the resort town of Vail, Colorado/Beaver Creek was our mission field. The first year God softened my heart and showed me in a real way what He had called me to be. That came in the form of praying and listening, but mostly it came through the mouths of people around me speaking into my life and affirming that call.

Were there times. and are there times, in my life when God appears to be quiet?

Sure!

Do I let it freak me out, and have I shown many times a major lack of trust in Him when I had to make THE decision, or financially it didn't make since?

Yes! But the cool thing is, season after season, God has always been there and it was me that showed up! Jesus said to Moses "take off your sandals for you are standing on Holy ground.  Moses had been wondering for over 40 years in the desert and at that moment his eyes were open to the fact that God had always been there. God truly wants us to see what He sees...have a heart like Jesus who takes his time and talks with a woman at a well who desperately needs healing. Jesus walked with his eyes open and his heart available for anyone that needed him and never once did the idea of settling down or retirement come in between Him and his mission to love unconditionally. I believe Moses was a man of God, but most of us would say we spent too long in the desert before waking up to what God was doing.

After the first year out west one of my friends headed to seminary and one headed back to Texas to finish school. I  enjoyed the next four years in Vail where I began to lead worship full time and later moved to Nashville, Tennessee to pursue music and live a bit closer to my parents. It's crazy how things happen and the way and time in which they accrue...I thought Nashville was where I was going to settle down and "start the family," but once again God didn't allow me to put a period at the end of that sentence

He is constantly at work. He moved me back to Tallahassee, my home town, where I'm "stoked" to be given the opportunity to lead and join in worship with all of you. My prayer this year for all of us is that we would reflect Christ as a community of believers and by His love and truth others would come to know Him! Let us encourage one another on as we go out to tell others of Jesus.

(Matt Long begins leading worship at the Well this Sunday.)
