Greetings!
The Complete Streets and Safe Routes to School (SRTS) approach is to create built environments to support safe and active transportation in the places where we live, work, go to school, and play. By changing the built environments to accommodate all users of the road, including pedestrians, bicyclists, motorists and public transport users (of all ages and abilities), Complete Streets and SRTS can have a huge impact on the health of our community. These built environments provide increased opportunities for physical activity and encourage walkability.
It's plain to see how a new concrete sidewalk or a smooth, asphalt multi-use path can create opportunities for physical activity and provide ways to get from one destination to the next. It's not always clear how to correctly and safely use these built environments.
Starting Sept. 25 -- just ahead of October, the deadliest month for pedestrians -- the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) will unveil new billboards, radio and bus ads and stage events in Minneapolis, St. Paul, St. Cloud, Rochester and Duluth to spread the word that every corner should be treated as a crosswalk, marked or not.
Share the Road - Pedestrians is a safety campaign intended to raise awareness of the Minnesota crosswalk law and teach safe crossing behaviors to pedestrians. Knowing that pedestrians and motorists are equally responsible for pedestrian safety, it's important that everyone take responsibility to follow the law, pay attention, and share the road.
Learn more about the St. Cloud event in our new blog post below -- "Share the Road - It's a Two Way Street"! And learn how you can help spread the word -- VOLUNTEER with us at the Crosswalk Ambassador Event! |

The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) says: "pedestrians and motorists are equally responsible for pedestrian safety. Motorist behaviors cause about half of all pedestrian-vehicle crashes and pedestrian behaviors cause the other half." Read more!

Yes, it is that time of year. Big yellow busses are bursting with energetic students. Parents have checked off items on the school shopping lists. Lockers are loaded. There's an energy in the air as the kids eagerly embrace the new school year. Read post! |
