The United Way announced last week that the 2010 Campaign officially wrapped up and raised a total of $2,045,000 million dollars that will support local programs focused on education, income and health.
"We were concerned about reaching our goal when we started because of the state of the local economy," Dan Kuhn, volunteer campaign chair said. "In fact, the last couple of weeks, it was coming down to the wire as to whether we would get there, but the community found a way to make it happen. Now more than ever people are in need of the services rendered by our local partners."
Kuhn said that this year's campaign also saw an increase in donations from retired citizens, which proves that Marion County remains a wonderful place to live, and because of the generosity of our donors, United Way will be able to support local agencies in providing much needed services to Marion County residents.
Fifty-eight agency programs have applied for funding this year with requests totaling more than $2.7 million dollars. Currently, volunteers are reviewing the applications and will be making recommendations on funding to the United Way board of directors in April.
