Congratulations to our 2010 Youth United Way Graduating Seniors

2010 seniors
2010 Youth United Way Senior class
Greetings!
June is known for graduations and watching the future generation conquer the world.  Recently, United Way congratulated the first Youth United Way Senior class on their achievements and projects.  This group of 15 seniors were the charter class for United Way's new youth initiative meant to expand the leadership qualities of students while contributing to Marion County by volunteering, fundraising, and making a positive impact in the community.

Ocala Police Chief and United Way Board Chair, Sam Williams told the graduates and their parents that giving back to the community especially through their participation in the Youth United Way program was only the start of the fullfilment of getting involved.  Chief Williams compared them to a baseball "farm team" and that they are preparing for the big leagues and will one day be on non-profit boards and will be our communities next generation of leaders.

"United Way is proud to be able to offer our high school youth the opportunity to get involved in their community," said Maureen Quinlan, president of United Way. "It's important that we prepare our future leaders by introducing and implementing hands-on approahes to advance the common good by giving, advocating and volunteering.

New class officers were installed and the upcoming class includes more than 50 students throughout the community.  Applications for the program are available in the spring each year.
