Greetings!
Seriously, where did February go? I mean, I know it's the shortest month and all, but I completely lost track of it. Maybe that's because it was so busy for me with moving to our new house and taking on a slew of new clients. I am thankful for the busy-ness of the month, and I look forward to more to keep me out of trouble.
I thought you might appreciate a little insight into my life and what makes me, well, "me." Many people have been asking me how I balance growing a business and raising a son mostly on my own while being able to get to the gym, see friends, and try to date. Of course, if any of you are in the same boat, you know it's not easy! Prioritizing is key, and that's something on which I am constantly working, balancing time to play with Patrick and trying not to work at home too much.
One of my daily routines is to practice being grateful. If you know me at all, you know I'm not a spiritual person, but I think it's important to take a moment to reflect on all the good things that happen each day and really appreciate them. I don't care if you get $1 million or you're just happy your old jalopy didn't fall apart getting you to work; take some time to be thankful. I ask my son what he's thankful for each night when I tuck him in to bed, and we go through the litany: Mom, Dad, toys, getting ice cream that day, or whatever else a four-year-old feels is a coup.
I encourage you to carve out 5-10 minutes at the end of each day to appreciate the good in your life. I guarantee you it will help you to stay positive, even when life is throwing you curveballs left and right. And, as I tell Patrick, "If you're not grateful for what you have, how can you get more?"
Every day, I am grateful for you, my clients and friends. Here's to a full month of things for which you can give thanks.

* Results not typical
|
|
At a recent networking event I ran into a client who has not yet received a job, six months after we completed his résumé. Usually, I hear about the great results clients have: 10 interviews in two weeks, more activity in a month than in six months before getting a new résumé, securing a sought-after promotion - you get the idea. But, let's face it, this economy isn't doing too many people any favors.
The benefit of writing an average of seven résumés every week is that "practice makes perfect." So, if you haven't received a position since we first wrote your résumé, let's give it another look. For only $25, I will look over the whole thing and rework wording to make it fresh and on target. I'll also rewrite the summary from a new perspective and check the keywords to ensure their relevancy.
I save all clients' projects, so just give a call or send an e-mail and I'll get to work and send you an invoice.

In the News
|
|
Lisa Vaas has become my new hero. Two times in the past month, she has featured quotes from me in her stories for TheLadders .com. If you're interested in getting some press and want to drive traffic to your Web site, getting quoted in a national publication (online or off) is the way to go. I connected with Lisa through HARO (help a reporter out), a thrice-daily e-mail with pitches from journalists and bloggers. The two articles in which Lisa mentioned me are Brain Dump and Brainstorm Your Way to a Résumé and Résumé Objective Statements to Catch a Manager's Eye
News stories are added the Web site as they occur.
