Important Lawn Fertilization Guidelines
The residents of Doubletree are in control of their own destiny in regards to treatment cost of the lake in future years. The main ingredient that causes algae to grow is phosphorous and the residents need to do everything they can to stop phosphorous from entering the lake. Residents need to remember that once phosphorous enters the lake it does not leave. The higher the rate of phosphorous, the faster the growth of algae in the lake. This is not only important to the people who live on the lake, but to those who live off as well, because all phosphorous use has the potential of running towards it. Sources of phosphorus are lawn fertilizers, decaying grass and leaves, and soaps from washing the car.

Lake Safety Concerns The Doubletree Board of Directors assembled to discuss the topic of Lake Safety. As many of you know Lakes of the Four Seasons faced a lawsuit resulting in a multi-million dollar settlement from a drowning that occurred several years ago. Our lake is off limits to all people when ice has formed. As a measure of safety we continually remind our community not to breach this rule. As an added measure we will be installing signs throughout the perimeter of the lake as winter approaches. These signs will be erected at the entrances of Doubletree and along the shore on POA owned property. It is recommend that each lakefront homeowner take the same precautions. We will also continue to advise our residents through the email database and mailings. Doubletree Security have also been instructed to keep a watchful eye. Every lakefront home owner should also do the same and report anyone on the ice to the security department. Our lake will be a safer place and our legal responsibilities met if we take these necessary steps. |

Plea from Superintendent of Schools by Terry Pingel Crown Point School District Superintendent, Dr. Teresa Eineman phoned me asking that I deliver an important message to the POA. Superintendent Eineman is making a case for a referendum on increasing property tax support for Crown Point schools and is asking the residents of Doubletree Lake Estates and Winfield to take notice.
Dr. Eineman advocates that support of the referendum will help shore up a $5,000,000.00 budget deficit.
I urge you to read more information at the following links:

Park Changes
Due to recent safety measures the POA Board of Directors has decided to make a change to the proposed location of a park on Doubletree Drive North. The new location has been determined and will be proposed at the opposite corner of Doubletree Drive North and Michigan Drive. This location is "off lake" and will serve as a safer location. The terrain is also flat and better serving for the purpose of a park area.
Improvements will begin almost immediately upon approval. The lot will be graded and seeded. Thank you to Dennis Roushelang who has offered to donate his time and machinery to grade the lot. When the grass is ready your POA will install a couple benches for your use. The POA will then plan the addition of future playground and park equipment.
The west side park location is under review. At this time it is located behind several homes and may not serve as the best location. Other locations are being reviewed. A report will follow in a future newsletter. |

Fish Cribs
The Doubletree Lake Committee recommend fish habitat structures (better known as Fish Cribs) to be added to Doubletree Lake.
Research suggests these cribs are necessary to promote the healthiest fish population. In all, 18 artificial structures will be placed on the floor of the lake providing a safe haven for smaller fish to hide from predators. Boating activities will not be affected. |

Lake Committee Report by Chairperson Jim Feltzer
The lake committee has gotten approval from DBL POA to act on some of our recommendations. We are pleased that we have gotten so much positive support from the POA board members.
Fish Cribs. The will be placed in six different locations around the lake. They will be sunk in deep water so no boating activities will be affected. It is our intention to have this done sometime this spring. Our long term goal is to make our lake an even better fishing lake.
Flag System. Our original flags are looking the worse for the wear. We are ordering larger flags which will be placed at the main entrance and at the boat ramp. There are 4 colors that everyone should be aware of: Red-Lake is closed, Yellow-No Wake & No Swimming, Orange-No Wake (swimming allowed), and Green-Lake Open for all permitted activities.
4th of July Weekend. We were pleased to find out that the POA is going forward with our suggestion that we have fireworks and a boat parade. The fireworks will be held on Saturday, July 2nd right after our "lighted" boat parade. Hopefully a lot of boat owners will be involved. Parking will be provided for residents of Doubletree East and West. Because professional fireworks are not cheap, donations are being requested. Everyone on the lake committee is on board and plan to donate. But, in order to fund this event donations will need to be received from many residents. Especially by May 10th to be included in drawings. |
