POA Manager Goes Behind Bars
Looks like we got your attention. Yes, Terry Pingel, Doubletree POA Manager has been charged by the MDA with having caring, good-natured and influential friends, associates, and neighbors. He will be arrested tomorrow, Wednesday, December 1st and locked up until bail is made to help families in our community affected by Muscular Dystrophy.
Funds raised through this event will help provide expert care at MDA clinics, summer camp for kids, repair of durable medical equipment and many more services. MDA funds hundreds of top scientists worldwide seeking treatments and cures for some 43 neuromuscular diseases. You can learn more by visiting www.mda.org.
Terry Pingel would like to make a personal plea to help him make bail by making a completely TAX DEDUCTIBLE donation to MDA. Visit Terry's homepage by visiting

Holiday Party for the Underprivileged
The Winfield Township Trustee, LOFS Fire Force, Elite Academy and staff from Doubletree & Picasso's Restaurant will host a holiday party for underprivileged children on December 19th at the Elite Academy in Winfield. Up to 55 kids will be in attendance and will be provided with a day of fun and gifts for some children and parents who are going through hard times and might not otherwise be receiving gifts and celebrating the holiday.
"The event is an opportunity for the community to come together and spread great cheer to a large number of children and their families", says Winfield Township Trustee, Rollie Brauer. "We are happy to be involved in this event".
Planned are games, prizes, a disc jockey, Christmas carols, gifts, and a vist for the man himself, Santa Claus.
The party will be managed by a group of volunteers whose sole desire is to see these families enjoy a wonderful celebration at no cost. "The party was simply wonderful last year. The kids had a ball and the parents did likewise" says Doubletree Resident and volunteer Leslie Korzeniewski.
The event is a sizable financial endeavor. Those wishing to help make someone's Christmas are encouraged to help by making a donation of toys or money. The Doubletree Guard House will accept these gifts until the day of the event. Please make donation checks out to "Winfield Township Trustee". ADD "Xmas Party" to the memo line.

WARNING - Keep off the Ice
Its that time of the year when we sound like a broken record player.. "Keep off the ice.. keep off the ice". But, its important to the health and wellbeing of our residents and families. So, we'll do it once again.
"Is the ice safe" is a question many will ask themselves this winter as they ponder walking out onto the ice. The answer is NO. Lake and pond ice is never really safe. Ice can be 8-inches thick at one end of the water and just 1/2 inch at the other. Several factors can weaken ice rapidly, too. Duck & Geese holes are places in the ice where it may freeze just enough to look safe. Even fish can weaken ice by moving to avoid complete freezing. In addition, Doubletree is a natural spring feed lake which can create movement of water beneath the ice causing weakness.
If the above factors are not enough, keep in mind that walking or riding on the ice in Doubletree is NOT allowed. Period. Doubletree does not allow ANY lake activities when ice has formed. Including fishing. If you see someone on the ice.. call Doubletree Security.
Parents. Talk to your children. Even if you already have. Do it again. Children are fascinated by the ice. Warn them that falling through the ice can result in serious injury or death. |

Helpful Winter Advice
Another winter is upon us and the great weather we had this summer will be long forgotten as frigid temperatures along with snow and ice converge on NWI. It's a beautiful and fun time of the year but it also has its bad points. Winter can present hazardous road and health conditions. Here are some quick tips in regards to some of the issues we could all be facing this winter.
Driving Safety Tips
During the winter months keep your gas tank full to prevent ice from building up in the gas tank and fuel lines. We have all been stuck on I-65 and 80/94 at one time or another. Place extra weight in your truck, especially for those of us that have rear wheel drive. Pack a small winter survival kit in your car in case you become stranded. This is not hard to do and would include a few extra blankets, flashlight, small first-aid kit, some non-perishable foods, some old warm clothing, and even some booster cables. This would allow you to not only help yourself but to help someone else that could be stranded. Always try to have your cell phone available. You holiday shoppers should not worry about your truck space as this will only take up a small portion of it.
Snow Shoveling Tips
Be sure to take it slow and pace yourself with rest breaks while shoveling to avoid over exertion. When lifting, use your legs and not your back. If you feel any type of pain - Stop. Wear warm clothing. Try to have a Weather Alert Radio in you home (small price and sold at Walgreens). When all else fails.. Call you neighbors for help.
Plowing Tips
We haven't even got a taste of what's to come. The fluffy stuff is coming. Please refrain from snowblowing your driveway and walkway snow into the street. And.. don't park in the street. |

Lake Committee Report by Jim Feltzer
As the new chairperson of the Lake Committee I would like to thank Lou Rinaldo, our outgoing chair, for an outstanding job. It's been a pleasure working with him as he guided the committee through many important lake issues that resulted in numerous improvements in safety and lake quality.
I would also like to welcome a new member to the committee, Doug Buuck. Doug has graciously agree to replace Bill Williams who's work committment has made it difficult to attend regular meetings. Bill has been a valuable asset to our committee and will remain an advisor going forward.
Water quality testing has shown that we have an exceptionally clean lake. We will periodically discuss the importance of keeping lawns free of phosphorus and our streets and drives free of yard debris, salts, soaps, and other potentially damaging chemicals. This will ultimately save us money in treatments to control algae growth. As of December 1st the lake is closed to all boating activities. On March 1st "no wake" boating will be allowed until April 1st when regular boating activies begin. |
