November 2010

Greetings!

Welcome to another edition of News & Reviews. Your Doubletree POA newsletter.
Doubletree West Gets a Facelift

DBL West

The entrance into Doubletree West received a much anticipated facelift last week. Several upgrades took place including the addition of three red sunset maple trees, several shrubs, ornamental grass, an enlarged plant bed, hardwood mulch, and oversized river rock to replace the riprap covering the drain. Flagstone was also added. The opposite side of the road mirrors the addition, as well.

The evening approach has improved tremendously with the addition of lighting, which was added a few months ago.

We're looking forward to next spring when the new trees and plants are in bloom. Should make for a pretty impressive entrance.
A Nice Catch - In Doubletree West?

bassApparently, Doubletree East is not the only place one can catch a whopper of a fish. This Bass was caught two weeks ago in the pond behind the clubhouse in Doubletree West by Alfred Cadena, a Doubletree West resident.

The fish smiled for the camera and was promptly returned to the pond to grow even bigger.

Nice catch, Alfred!!

Residents remember. If you're going to fish you must be compliant with Indiana law. Fishing is never permitted when ice has formed on any lake or pond in Doubletree.

Security Matters - Q&A

Over the past few months several questions have been brought to the Doubletree POA Board of Directors in reference to security matters.

Q: Is parking allowed on the streets of Doubletree west and east.

A: The simple truth is.. No. Covs and Restrictions recorded several years ago by the originating developer simply state parking is not permitted without express written approval of the POA. This rules is especially enforced in the evening hours and when parking on the street creates any type of inconvenience or hazard to the residents of the community. This is a rule that has been in place for many years. Many have expressed a disagreement with this rule. But, many more have encouraged it's enforcement. If you absolutely need to park on the street, please contact security for direction.

Q: Why did I receive a ticket for leaving my trash cans outside.

A: The residents of Doubletree want their neighborhood to look GREAT... in every aspect. They want trash cans hidden from sight and have asked security to enforce this.

Q: I was singled out by security and received a ticket. Why?

A: Our POA hired security to enforce our covenants. If you are breaking a covenant rule and received a notice from security, you are not being "singled out". Security is acting on the order of the POA to enforce the covenants. Security has issues over 500 tickets since July.

Q: How do I protest a violation notice.

A: Easy. You have 10 days to deliver a written notice of protest to the POA office and your protest will be heard by a committee of resident peers. We encourage those who feel they received a violation notice in error to protest. But, use common sense when protesting a well deserved ticket as the POA bestows the cost associated with a protest.

Winfield Community Foundation - A Worthy Cause

by POA Manager Terry Pingel

food pantryIt pains me to say, but charity is hard. Maybe that's why so many steer clear of it. The fine people who operate the Winfield Community Foundation are aware of the difficulties in raising funds and awareness for a worthy cause. But, that's not stopping them. They continue to work diligently to help those in need. They have organized several fundraisers (Oktoberfest, Doubletree 5k, Derby Day, just to name a few) to help those in need. They have delivered care packages to those needing assistance, and just last week presented a check to Winfield Trustee Rollie Brauer to help stock the community Food Pantry, which is always in need of support. I'm honored to be a part of this great group of people and the cause they support and work so hard for.

So, is charity always hard. Not necessarily. Not everyone needs to serve in the same capacity of those mentioned above. Simply attending a fundraising event like Oktoberfest can be valuable support. And its fun. Oktoberfest featured great food, games, drinks, and rock-n-roll bands. See, charity can actually be fun.

Please support the Winfield Community Foundation any way you can. They appreciate it. And.. the people they assist appreciate it.

Lake Committee Report by Lou Rinaldo
No Wake Lake.
As noted in last month's newsletter, the entire lake is now "no wake" until November 30th, at which time the lake will be closed for all boating activities.

Fish Restocking
Approximately 800 "larger than expected" (8" to 12") Walleye were placed in our lake last month. This will help maintain the proper balance of type and size of fish in our lake. We would like to thank committee member Josh Elder for once again doing a great job of coordinating this activity. It is important to note that all Walleye caught in the lake must be released back into the water for the next 2-3 years.

Winter Lake Safety Reminder
As winter nears and the lake begins to freeze we would like to remind everyone that ice skating, ice fishing, or any other activity on the lake is extremely dangerous and prohibited.

Change in Chairmanship
I am pleased to announce that Jim Feltzer has graciously agreed to take over as chairperson of the lake committee. It has been my pleasure to serve in this capacity for the past three years. I am certain you will all offer Jim the same courtesy and support I have received. I know Jim will do a great job. He has served as vice chairman for the past three years. I would particularly like to thank fellow committee members Annette Williamson, Josh Elder, Bill Williams, Van Huffine, Ron Johnson and Jim Feltzer for their input, contribution, support and near perfect meeting attendance for the past three years. I will continue to participate on the committee as a regular member as well as remain on the POA Board of Directors, representing Doubletree East.
Hunting on Doubletree Property
Reminder: Hunting is not permitted on property located in Doubletree East or Doubletree West. Please report any hunting to Doubletree Security.
