Doubletree Lake Estates & Doubletree West

News & Reviews

October 2010

Greetings!

There has been a lot of recent discussion and press regarding the town's struggle with policing Winfield. In the past week it has been reported that Lake County will discontinue policing the Town of Winfield until an agreement is reached between the entities. Doubletree understands this is a concern to the Doubletree neighborhood and has increased patrols of both east and west in an effort to stay visible and offer the best security services possible. We hope for a quick resolve to the issue as a police presence is important to a town growing as fast as Winfield.

POA Board of Directors

Doubletree 5k Run

racedayThe inaugural Winfield OctoberFAST 5k/2k was held on Saturday, September 25th. The race started at 4pm sharp at the Southwest gates of Doubletree. The 3.1-mile course also included a 1/4 mile stretch that was off-road. The participants had much fun and gave high ratings for the running/walking course. Awards were given to the top three runners in their respective age categories, and top overall honors for the fastest male/female runners.

A special Thank You goes out to Randy Minas for allowing this special event to take place and for grading the undeveloped east end of the lake making it possible for the runners to safely circle the lake. It was absolutely wonderful and the perfect course to hold our 5k race.

Special recognition goes out to Doubletree resident Jim Jungles who chaired and organized the event. Also to resident Lou Rinaldo, Security Supervisor Keith Batton, Maintenance Supervisor Frank Zilinger, the several security guards, Julissa Ayala from the POA office, course marshals, and the many other volunteers who made the event possible. Doubletree POA Management would also like to thank the residents of Doubletree for coming out of your homes and cheering on the runners.

The OctoberFAST 5k/2k run was held in conjunction with the 2nd annual Oktoberfest brought to you by the Winfield Community Foundation. Please come out again next year and enjoy the festivities.

Security Advice from POA Manager Terry Pingel.

Doubletree Security has been relatively busy since changes were put in place months ago. Although many have expressed a displeasure for receiving citations, many more are pleased that action is being taken when covenants are being broken. For those who have received citations its important to know that no one is being singled out. Security has addressed hundreds of infractions. It is their responsibility to the POA (which is you) to enforce the covenants and restrictions each and every day. From simple infractions like a lamppost being burnt out to exceeding the speed limit the Doubletree Security Department is required to act. The simple fact is if you are breaking a covenant rule, you will be cited. If you wish to grieve a citation you are welcome to. But, keep in mind, rules are rules and the covenants are for the good of the community. For those who choose to ignore a citation, the POA will respond with further fines, late fees, and legal action if necessary.

An occasional few have elected to disrespect our security officers by threatening, cursing, or fleeing the patrol vehicle. These people will likely receive no sympathy from the POA Board or Grievance Committee. Again, the POA has chosen to enforce covenants and the Security Department is doing this job for the POA. If you feel differently you are encouraged to get involved by joining the Doubletree POA Security Committee.

For the much larger number of property owners who have contacted our office and voiced an appreciation for covenant enforcement you can be assured it will continue.

In closing, I would like to take a moment to address a traffic concern. We have all witnessed erratic driving in our community. From disregarding a stop sign to exceeding the speed limit. The POA's concern is simply the safety of our citizens. Therefore, safe and proper driving will be enforced in Doubletree East as it is regulated by the Covenants and Restrictions. Stop signs and the 20 MPH speed limit signs are posted and enforceable by the POA.
Lake Committee Report by Resident Lou Rinaldo
Greetings from you Lake Committee.

Boating Season Extension. As the boating season winds down for yet another year, we would like to remind you of the change enacted in 2010. This year boats will be allowed in the water for one additional month until the end of November. However, the entire lake will become "NO WAKE" beginning November 1st. The intent of the change is to allow an extra month for fishing enthusiasts to land that big one. All boats will need to be removed from the lake by November 30th.

Fish Restocking. As mentioned in prior newsletters, the fish restocking will occur in mid to late October. We have contracted with the same firm as last year. They will be adding about 800 Walleye.

Catch & Release Correction from Sept. Newsletter. I reported that the fishing policy was "catch & release" which was obviously incorrect. What I meant to report was that we request that for the next 1-2 years, until the fish restocking program has been completed, all Walleye caught should be released. We obviously want to allow the Walleye population to continue to expand to maintain a better balance of fish in our lake.

Lake Water Quality. Once again Doubletree Lake's water quality tested safe.
