Committee Reports

Lake Committee Report by Resident Lou Rinaldo

Water Quality - A test of the water in Doubletree Lake was conducted for a third time this year. As in the prior tests, the results were excellent which means our lake continues to be safe for normal lake activity.

Fish Restocking - The POA has approved the second of three planned fish restocking programs. The first was last fall when 800 walleyes were released. Another 800 will be added this year and again next fall. The restocking program ensures a proper balance of species and to minimize the pesky blue gill which are overly plentiful.

Independence Day Weekend Activities 2011 - The Lake Committee is considering hosting a lighted boat parade and fireworks display during the next Fourth of July weekend. We are discussing the possibility of requesting a "voluntary" $20 contribution from homeowners to help fund the event which shall be open to both East & West residents. Boats with valid Doubletree permits would be allowed on the lake. More on this topic in the months ahead.

Lake Patrol - You may have noticed Lake Patrol has not been patrolling at pre-determined times as they have in the past. We have requested that security observe boating activity from ashore and patrol when warranted or when heavy lake traffic exists. In addition, the patrol boat's motor recently seized up resulting in the boat being temporarily out of commission . A new motor has been purchased and patrols continue.

We would like to remind everyone that our fishing policy continues to be catch & release.

Security Committee Report by Resident Tom Sperka

By now everyone should be aware that Midwest Security is managing security operations in Doubletree. I think we have already witnessed a significant difference. Many positive comments have come from residents since the implementation. Our officers are doing what needs to be done and much of that is enforcing the rules set forth by the POA. One hot topic is speeding. Several speeding tickets have been issued. Please remember that there are a number of children in our neighborhood. Something as simple as slowing down and paying attention can save a life. Please adjust your driving and adhere to the posting speed limit signs. Patrol has been instructed to write citations for dangerous activity and not warnings.
A Message from Doubletree Security
By Security Supervisor Keith Batton

In last month's newsletter residents of Doubletree were advised that enforcement of the covenants, rules, and regulations would continue as a priority duty of security as mandated by the POA board of directors. Since then your security department has issued over 275 citations for an array of violations from failure to cut grass to exceeding the posted speed limit. Of those citations 27 included a fine.

Each resident receiving a "warning" citation is granted time to correct the issue. In some cases additional time is granted when the situation requires it. Those who don't correct their violation will be re-cited. Likely with a fine attached.

We are finding a majority of residents are complying and addressing violations promptly. We would like to extend a huge "thank you" to those as your cooperation is appreciated. However, a handful are not complying as requested and this cost the POA because of the extra time and effort required to process additional citations.

Lake Lots

The Doubletree sales department reports there are currently only a of handful remaining developer improved lake lots available in Doubletree East. Even with an irregular housing market lake lots continue to spark activity. Therefore, the Developers of Doubletree are looking at future development on the lake. Yes, this means the loop will finally be complete. If you have any interest in a lake lot -- now is the time. Call Terry Pingel at (219) 945-1331.

Doubletree Entrance Projects:
Entrance Improvements coming soon.

east entranceBoth the Doubletree West and Doubletree East entrances are being improved. First on the agenda is Doubletree West. Improvments will begin in the next couple weeks, weather permiting. The plan is to widen the landscaped area near the sign, add several shrubs and trees, and replace the rock with attractive river rock. In addtion the opposite side of the road will mirror the existing (minus the sign). This will give Doubletree West a much deserved improvement.

Doubletree East improvements are planned to take place in early spring. The conceptual plan begins with the replacement of the Doubletree Real Estate sign with the lighted monument-type sign. The existing brick colums and iron fence will be enhanced with shrubs. Vibrant colored landscaping will flank the entrance area. Several trees and shrubs will be included. Fountains will add a touch of awe to the entrance. In addition, the lot just east of the entrance will be enhanced with landscaping.

We would like say thanks to the Doubletree Entrance Enhancement Committee for their hard work.
Grievances
Procedures for Grieving a Citation

Those who feel they have received a citation in error are encouraged to contact the Security Supervior Keith Batton. In most cases an error can be solved with this simple call. If the supervisor determines the citation is valid, residents may request a grievance hearing. A grievance is heard by a committee of resident members of the POA.

Grievances are heard the first Wednesday of each Month at the Cluhouse beginning at 6pm.

Citation fines are due within 10 days of the date on infraction. Fines must be paid in full by cash or check at the clubhouse, during normal hours, and NOT at the guard shack. Credit Cards are not accepted.

To protest a citation one must do so within 10 days in writing (email acceptable) to the Doubletree Grievance Committee. Cases are usually heard within 30 days of receipt.
