Committee Reports
Lake Committee by Lou Rinaldo
The Lake Committee will host another Kids' Fishing Tournament of May 16. 1pm to 3pm. Our tournament is held on the northwest end of the lake near the front gate. Refreshments and snacks are provided to the kids. As usual, both Doubletree East and Doubletree West residents and thier nieces, nephews, and grandkids are invited to participate. Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places in two age categories. Bring a fishing rod if you have one. If not, we have a limited supply of loaner rods. Bait is provided and fishing experts will be on hand to assist, teach, and help kids bait hooks and remove fish. No experience is necessary for this fun-filled event. Call Julissa at (219)945-1331 to register your child.
An Adult Fishing Tournament being considered is being put on hold due to a lack of interest from residents.
We are pleased to announce our Committee has nominated Doubletree resident Van Huffine to serve as a member of the Lake Committee. The committee has submitted Mr. Huffine's name to the POA Board of Directors for consideration and expect him to be appointed by our next meeting. We appreciate all those who expressed an interest in joining our us and encourage you to continue your support of Doubletree Lake and the Lake Committee.
Beautification Committee by Terry Pingel
The newly revitalized Doubletree Community Beautification Committee will hold its first meeting of 2010 on April 13th @ 6pm. Anyone wishing to attend must pre-register by emailing me @ tpingel@doubletreelake.net. At this time I have not assigned a committee chairperson, but will in coming weeks. The Beautification Committee's objective shall simply be to protect and enhance the property values of Doubletree through identification of needs and implementation of solutions as they are related to overall subdivision beautification. Our committee will concentrate on "Beautification" of our neighborhood only.
Special Events Committee by Deborah Lavery
At long last spring has arrived and that means it's also time for the second annual Doubletree Easter Egg Hunt. The event, which will be held at the grounds next to the clubhouse will include over 1000 eggs for youngsters to hunt and gather. Youngsters finding a golden token in their egg will receive one of five grand prizes donated by Randy & Nancy Minas. The event starts promptly at 11am, so don't be late. In addition, there will be an ice cream truck on premise for those wishing to purchase a sweet treat before heading out for the rest of their Saturday.
The Easter weekend will also feature an Easter Egg Brunch on Sunday at Picasso's. Make your reservations today as the brunch will fill up quickly.

Important Lawn Fertilization Guidelines
Formally submitted by Jim Donahoe, Aquatic Weed Control
The residents of Doubletree are in control of their own destiny in regards to treatment cost of the lake in future years. The main ingredient that causes algae to grow is phosphorous and the residents need to do everything they can to stop phosphorous from entering the lake. Residents need to remember that once phosphorous enters the lake it does not leave it. The higher the rate of phosphorous, the faster the growth of algae in the lake. This in not only important to the people who live on the lake, but to those who live off the lake as well, because all phosphorous use has the potential of running towards it. Sources of phosphorus are lawn fertilizers, decaying grass and leaves, and soaps from washing your car.
The cost of treating the lake will only increase if phosphorus is not kept from entering it.
What you can do:
1. Keep grass clippings off the road so they may not drain into the lake.
2. Use non-phosphorus yard fertilizers and prevent fertilizers from entering the water or street.
3. When washing cars, keep soap from draining into the street. |
