Personal Fireworks Display Guidelines
With the Fourth of July weekend upon us it is important that everyone follow fireworks rules and safety guidelines.

State and local ordinances allow legal fireworks to be setoff and displayed on July 4th from 10am to midnight and any other day from 10am to 2 hours after dark (approximately 10:30pm).

Also, please make sure your personal fireworks are set off in a safe area and that all fireworks remains are disposed of in a proper manner to keep our community clean.

Be SAFE and COURTEOUS this 4th of July!!!

Safe Boating / Skiing / Tubing Class - July 14, 2009
We are pleased to announce that a class will be held at the boat ramp on Tuesday, July 14 at 6pm. The emphasis of the class will be safe boating practices, particularly as they apply to skiing and boating. The class will be led by Pat Szuba who is a competitive skier and Lake Committee member. The class will be open to all Doubletree homeowners and their families. Call Julissa @ (219)945-1331 to RSVP. Class size is limited.

Lake Patrol
The boat patrol is now in operation. Midwest Security has been retained to periodically patrol our lake to ensure that safe practices are being followed. We have given the patrol officers our Lake Rules and Regulations and have asked them to observe boating and swimming activities for the protection of all residents. The boat is equipped with radar and police lights. The patrol will be conducted both on and off the lake. The signs which were to be placed on the boat are not yet ready, but the officers will be wearing readily recognizable Midwest Security attire.

Water Quality
On June 4, 2009 water samples were taken by Microbac, a water testing firm. The tests results were very favorable for all activities in our lake with bacterial readings of less than 10CFU/100ML.

Special Events Committee by Deborah Laverty

The Doubletree Community Wide Garage Sale was once again a huge success. There were about 30 homeowners taking part from both East and West subdivisions with many coming to our community on June 13 to look for their treasured garage sale finds.  Unfortunately, the Goodwill truck broke down prior to its arrival to Doubletree so there was some delays in pickup at the end and some homes didn't receive pickup until the following weekend. The Special Events Committee apologizes for the inconvenience this may have caused.  Next year we are considering going with a different venue for donations. Any ideas are appreciated.

Stay tuned for more information on an Old-Fashioned Ice Cream community event to be held in mid to late August.  Last year the committee offered the special treats outside the clubhouse on a Sunday afternoon and it turned out to be an enjoyable event.
Security Advice
The Times recently reported that thefts from vehicles in Valparaiso and surrounding communities have skyrocketed. Keep your vehicles locked even when parked in your own driveway. Items taken have been reported as GPS units, laptops, purses, and pretty much anything easy to carry and in plain site.
Holy Moley - Catch of the Month
fish catch Lake Committee member Bill Williams lands yet another big one. As always, his catch was returned to Doubletree Lake to grow even bigger. Way to go, Bill!!!

Lake Safety
We would like to remind residents that the boat ramp and dock have been installed exclusively for the use of launching and removing boats from the lake. Swimming from the ramp and dock is extremely dangerous and is strictly prohibited. We would also encourage parents to provide adult supervision to any child under the age of 16 while swimming in the lake. Feel free to call Ron Johnson at (219) 945-1331 with any questions. Thank you for your usual cooperation.
