bunny winnerA Wonderful Turn-out for East Egg Hunt
by Deborah Laverty (Special Events Committee Chair)

The turn-out for community's first ever Easter egg hunt was a wonderful success with an estimated 200 youngsters, parents, and grandparents showing up on April 11th at the clubhouse.
The Special Events Committee was overwhelmed by the great response to our event since we knew we were competing with several other events that same morning.
The committee would like to thank everyone for coming out that morning and we promise to be better prepared with many more surprise-filled eggs next year.
Congratulations to Ella Brinley, Elle Folland, and Michael San Juan who won a chocolate bunny or basket.

Lake Report
By Lake Committte Chairman Lou Rinaldo

Fishing Tournament, Sunday May 17
After an overwhelming response from residents regarding the kids' fishing tournaments, the lake committee has decided to host a third kids' fishing tournament. This event will be held at the northwest end of the lake across from the cul de sac and will be open to all kids 18 & under for Doubletree Lake East and West. The tournament will be on Sunday, May 17 from 1pm to 3pm. Prizes, snacks and refreshments will be provided. Those who are interested in participating should contact Julissa at Doubletree @ 219.945.1331 to reserve your place. The event will be open to all residents' kids, grand kids & nieces/nephews. See details in this newsletter.

General Lake Meeting, Tuesday, May 12
The Lake Committee will be hosting their first general meeting of the year which will be open to all residents of Doubletree Lake East. The meeting will be held from 6pm to 7pm at the clubhouse. We invite all East residents to attend. The first part of the meeting will be spent reviewing initiatives which have been completed and some that are being planned for 2009 and beyond. We will then open up the meeting to receive input from residents on lake related matters.

Lake Patrol
A pontoon boat has been purchased for our lake by Doubletree's developer Randy Minas. The boat will be utilized to install and remove buoys and a variety of lake related general tasks. We would like to thank Randy and his team for the continued support of the Lake Committee.

Water Quality Testing
In last month's newsletter we reported that the department of health would be testing the lake's water quality on a regular basis. We have since been notified that the health department will no longer be providing this service. The Lake Committee will be exploring alternate methods of accomplishing our goal of testing the water.

Flag Warning System
The flag warning system will be implemented prior to the Memorial Day holiday. It will be placed near the bulletin board which will soon be erected at the dock area. There will also be a flag installed near the guard shack. The flag system will work as follows; Red Flag - Lake Closed to all activities. Yellow Flag - No Wake, No Swimming. Orange Flag - No Wake, Swimming Permitted. Green Flag - Lake Open to all activities.

Addresses on Docks
For safety purposes the Lake Committee has recommended that all residents who have docks on the lake install address numbers on the lake side of their docks. This is to ensure that the correct address is reported in the event of a mishap on the lake. The Lake Committee will notify all dock residents of the size and color of the numbers required in the near future.
