February 2009
Dear Friends,

We would like to begin this month's newsletter remembering our friend and associate Manuel Barrera, known to almost all as "Sonny", whom suffered a fatal heart attack on January 9th, 2009 at his home in Doubletree West.Sonny

Still today, our office mood remains somber knowing that Sonny will no longer be calling in from the guardhouse with his daily "good morning", or greeting our Doubletree residents with a warm-hearted welcome and benevolent smile.

Sonny will be forever remembered as a kind & charismatic Christian man who served his country, adored his family, and who everyone loved & respected.

We miss him greatly and his family will remain in our thoughts and prayers.

For those wishing to send a personal condolence to the Barrera family, you may deliver it to the guardhouse at Doubletree East's main gate. Any monetary contributions should be endorsed directly to Sonny's widow Lenore Barrera and sealed. A Doubletree Security officer will deliver contributions and condolences directly to Sonny's Family.

Committee Reports

Special Events Committee
by Deborah Laverty (Committee Leader)
REPORT: The Special Events Committee at its January meeting planned an entire year ahead -- a year that will include adding some fun new events as well as keeping some of the old standbys.

Picasso's (Doubletree Clubhouse) will be the scene of a special Tuesday, Fat Tuesday that is, on February 24th. In the near future, we're also planning on holding an Easter egg hunt for youngsters on the Saturday before Easter as well as our annual community-wide garage sale in June.

Stay tuned to hear of all our fun events by reading about them in future Doubletree newsletters.

Lake Committee
by Lou Rinaldo (Committee Leader)
REPORT: The Lake Committee finalized the Top 10 Safety Rules at the January meeting. This along with the Flag Alert program will be sent to the POA for approval in time for the '09 boating season. The committee will also be recommending that all boat owners sign a form agreeing to abide by these rules and ensure that anyone operating their boats will do the same. The form would be required to be signed in order to purchase a boat permit. The Top 10 rules will also be posted on the bulletin board at the entrance (ramp) of the lake.

The committee will be discussing the implementation of the Lake Patrol which has been approved by Doubletree management. Among topics to be discussed and recommended to the POA are the frequency of patrol, the boat which will be used and the warning and fine system which will be adopted.

Doubletree management has approved the fish restocking program which will be implemented in the spring. The purpose of the program is to maintain a good balance of size and type of fish in our lake and hopefully reduce some of the pesky type fish which are a nuisance to swimmers.

Snow Plowing Reminder

snow carWe probably have not seen our last snow storm this season. So, we want to remind you to avoid pushing snow from your driveway to the street.

Also, remember, there is a significant salt shortage this season and supplies are limited. Our crews will be spreading salt only where absolutely necessary; corners, intersections, etc. Please drive cautiously when snow and ice are on the roads.

In addition, most of Doubletree West's streets are public, therefore plowing of snow on these streets is the responsibility of the Town of Winfield.

We would also like to remind you that parking on the street during and after a snow fall restricts snow plowing efforts.

It is also important to your post office delivery person to clear snow at your mailbox.
Note: Parking in the streets of Doubletree overnight is a violation of community covenants. Tickets may be issued.
Doubletree East Non-Resident Stickers

Non-Resident visitor stickers are available at Doubletree East's main gate. The sticker program authorizes frequent (non-resident) visitors a convenient entry into Doubletree East without following the normal procedure of contacting residents for approval. Doubletree East may purchase these auto stickers for their children, parents, fellow car poolers, etc. Stickers will only be sold to registered Doubletree East residents in good standing with the POA. Each sticker is the responsibility of the resident as well as actions of the person who receives it.  Price is $15 and is good for remainder 2009.

Don't forget your Special Someone.
Valentine's Day - Saturday, February 14th
Dog-Gone-It

dogIts seems curious to have to remind pet owners to clean up after their dogs. But, complaints continue.

Please clean up by picking up. Please dispose of droppings properly. Leaving it behind in empty lots, walking paths, and neighbor's yards is against POA rules and truly inconsiderate to those who come across it later. A fine of $25 can be enforced to violators.

You are welcome to contact the POA if you spot this rule being violated.
baby blockSpecial Congratulations to Rosemary & Lou Rinaldo on the addition of Grandchild #6.
