| Another Successful Kids' Fishing Tournament
It's catching on. The Doubletree Lake Estates Kids' Fishing Instruction and Tournament, that is. After a successful Spring event the Lake Committee agreed the contest could be held again in the Fall.
Sunday, September 28th, hosted this tournament and 28 youngsters ranging from age 3 to 16 participated. The picture perfect day attracted around sixty kids, parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and friends.
A total of 64 fish were caught by the participating kids. The longest fish of the day was reeled in by seven year old Max Hall who landed a whopping 21-1/2 inch catfish. Each catch created great excitement for the kids, many fishing for their first time.
Lake Committee members Annette Williamson, Ron Johnson, Jim Feltzer, Josh Elder, Bill Williams, and Lou Rinaldo organized the event. Doubletree's Developer Randy Minas and his team provided ample tasty snacks and refreshments. Jim Feltzer and Bill Williams judged the event and did a great job instructing their angling students.
McDonald Gift certificates and prize money were donated once again by an anonymous Doubletree resident and all left over snacks & refreshments were donated to a local charity.
Tournament winners were:
Ages 10 and up: First Place - Nick Ewart ($60 winner), Second Place - Ashton Kristevski ($40 winner), Third Place - Mike San Juan ($20 winner).
Ages 9 and under: First Place - Max Hall ($60 winner), Second Place - Madelyn Hussey ($40 winner), Third Place - Mathew Black ($20 winner).

| Committee Reports
It has been an extremely busy month for us. The committee launched its fundraising effort to support coming Doubletree park areas. This began with a Bulb & Mum sale and raffle on September 20th. Stacy Hoover was the winner of the mum raffle and the committee earned $204 from the sale. Thank you to everyone who came out to visit us on that day!
Additionally, the committee has been working hard on a plan to secure discount prices on trees for Doubletree Residents from a local nursery. More on that coming soon.
Finally, we are having a Fall Decorations Sale Saturday, October 4th in the Doubletree clubhouse parking area. The sale will include more bulbs, hay bales, pumpkins (large & small), indian corn bundles, and corn stalks with the corn still on. All will be offered at reasonable prices. A raffle will be held for the largest pumpkin in the lot. Again, all profits support development of Doubletree parks.
Our next meeting is Monday, October 13th @ 6pm. All are welcome. Please email me at clsuson@gmail.com.
Special Events Committee Report by Deborah Laverty
Please join our Special Events Committee on October 14th @ 7pm (inside Picasso's). We guarantee you'll have fun and will enjoy planning our fun special events that have already included a back to school ice cream social in August and a community-wide garage sale in June. The theme for this meeting will be "Margaritaville" and there'll be beverages, chips and salsa included. We'll be planning the December Holiday Event and putting final touches on miscellaneous charity plans. RSVP for this meeting by emailing me at deborahlaverty@gmail.com.
Lake Committee
The lake committee discussed the issue of the docks that were compromised as a result of a recent storm. It was reported eight docks were damaged due to water levels rising above the top of the posts securing them. The lake committee will recommend to the POA to have all dock posts extend four feet above the top of the docks to avoid similar future damage. We will also recommend a process be implemented to close the lake to watercraft when abnormal rains occur. We thank all the boaters for their patience and understanding while the lake was closed to allow dock owners time to make necessary repairs.
A fish fry is being planned for November to help raise funds for lake related projects. The date and details will be released soon.
A fish restocking program is being planned and should be completed by late fall.
With the resolution to an insurance issue, lake patrol is planned to begin at the start of the 2009 boating season.
An "Open" general lake committee meeting is scheduled for October 14th beginning at 6pm at the Doubletree clubhouse. The one hour meeting is open to all Doubletree Lake Estates (east) residents.
In closing, I would like to thank Randy Minas and his Doubletree management team for supporting the fishing tournament held last Sunday. Doubletree provided snacks and refreshments to the children and their parents. Additionally, I want to acknowledge the good work of the committee members Annette Williamson, Ron Johnson, Josh Elder, Jim Feltzer and Bill Williams, who helped organize and oversee the special event. At times it was difficult to distinguish who was having more fun - the kids catching the fish or the committee members helping them. In all, 64 fish were reeled in. One topped out at 21-1/2 inches. Most importantly, the committee would like to thank the children for attending and their parents for bringing them. I encourage all to support future tournaments and activities planned and organized by your POA committees. |
POA Manager Report
By Ron Johnson
Dog droppings create pollution in your lake. Please pick up after your pet. Allowing your dog to do it's business in an empty lot seems harmless, but has the potential of creating contamination after rainfall. All dropping should be picked up by the owner and disposed of in an appropriate manner.
POA assessment invoices will be mailed out soon.
Ongoing erosion control measures are being addressed by the developer in conjunction with the POA. Contractors are required to install silt fencing and may be cited by the developer and the Town of Winfield for failing to do so.
Did you notice the future park areas in Doubletree West and Doubletree Lake Estates? Both were recently graded and seeded and weather permitting, will be ready for more planned improvements in the spring.
Doubletree handled the incredible rain storm we received last month with very few problems. No basements or roads were reported flooded during the storm.

Security Department Report
Nighttime is arriving sooner and sooner as we head into the fall season. Remember to adjust your landscaping and walkway timers accordingly. Also, please check your lamppost light bulbs which are to be illuminated in the evening.
Please do not park on the walking path in Doubletree East. This creates a dangerous situation when a pedestrian must enter the street to get around your vehicle. You may call security at 947-4440 to report a vehicle parked on the path.
Slow Down. Our security personnel consist of actual police officers and can write tickets and/or covenant violation citations. The safety of our community is their #1 concern and speeding will not be tolerated.
A new gate system will be implemented soon at the front entrance. A retracting security arm will allow residents with issued bar codes to enter in the right lane. All others will be required to check in with security personnel in the left lane where another security arm will be placed. Keep in mind a special pass allowing your regular visitors to enter without calling you for permission each time is available. Contact Doubletree for more information.
Remember to lock your vehicles and garage doors. Don't make it easy for those with sticky fingers.
Dog Owners! Dogs in Doubletree are required to be on leashes. Allowing your pet to run free may result in a citation. | |
