Welcome to another issue of the Doubletree Lake Estates POA News & Reviews Newsletter.
As newsletter editor and participant of several committees and Doubletree events I would like to recognize a few that have gone above and beyond the call in making Doubletree a great place to live.
Special thanks to a number of Doubletree builders and businesses who unselfishly contributed to the Ice Cream Social held last month. All commented that no recognition was necessary, but I'm going to do it anyway. Thank you to Elite Academy, Metlov Builders, MD Construction, Prairie Homes, Impact Development, Palace Builders, and Homes of the 20th Century. Your generosity is appreciated by the Doubletree POA and those who had such a wonderful time at the event.
Also, thank you to Deborah Laverty for working so hard on the ice cream social. With the assistance of only a few managed to pull off a pretty impressive event. Also, thank you to Rose Rinaldo, Julissa Ayala, and Deborah's daughter for contributing the time and effort.
With this I find it necessary to point out that your Doubletree committees NEED YOU!! Join a committee. They are fun and great for the Doubletree Community.
Enjoy your newsletter,
Terry Pingel |

Doubletree POA first Ice Cream Social a Hit brought to you by the Special Events Committee |
Doubletree Lake Estates POA's very first back-to-school ice cream social on August 16 was a very sweet success with about 80 residents, mostly youngsters accompanied by moms & dads, taking part.
The Special Events Committee scooped up four flavors of ice cream into either cones or bowls with participants sampling their treats at tables set up on the entryway outside Doubletree's clubhouse.
Thanks to the LOFS/Winfield fire force the kids got the opportunity to climb aboard fire trucks and learn about fire safety.
Thank you to Deborah Laverty and Rose Rinaldo who worked so hard to make the event successful. Special thank you to the firefighters for taking time to come to the event and giving the children a demonstration and to Doubletree's Julissa Ayala for handing out stickers and prizes to some very happy kids.
See you next year!! |

| Protect Your Trees! |
Bagworms have arrived by Doubletree's Beautification Committee |
| It has been discovered that many trees, especially evergreens, in the neighborhood have an unwelcome visitor.. bagworms. These pests appear much like small pine cones hanging from branches, but are indeed cocoons for themselves and they can destroy a tree over time. Research suggests most non-commercial pesticides do not rid these pests and the best defense is to actually hand pick them from branches and dispose of them in a proper fashion as to not allow them to escape.
The Beautification Committee strongly urges each of you to inspect your yard and trees as soon as possible and begin removing the pests. They also request that you inspect adjoining empty lots and public areas as well. Doubletree has begun treating several areas but much can be missed without everyone's help.
Working together, we can keep our community beautiful. |

Beautification Committee by Carla Suson |
Since the developers of Doubletree, DBL Residential, has designated land on both sides of Doubletree as park areas, the committee decided to proceed with assisting with fundraising for these areas. The park sites have recently been graded by the developer and our committees next step is to help raise the necessary funds for trees, benches, and playground equipment. With this we are kicking off our fundraising with two events this Fall.
- Bulb & Mum Sale: September 20th
- Cornstalks/Pumpkins/Hay Bale Sale: October 4th
We would like to offer a big Thank You to Dennis White and his mother for donating a large amount of daffodil bulbs for this sale. If anyone else would like to donate plants, bulbs, or gardening supplies to the park effort, please contact me, Carla Suson, at clsuson@gmail.com or call (219)310-8880. With everyone's help we can move towards having some lovely play areas for our children.
Lake Committee

After an overwhelming response from residents, the lake committee has decided to host a second fishing tournament for kids 18 & under. This event will be held at the northwest end of the lake across from the cul-de-sac. (Details above). We hope that Tyler Cher and Mathew Black will return to defend their titles from the spring tournament.
Safe Zones: The buoys identifying Safe Zones are in!! Please remember these zones are reserved for no-wake activities.
The insurance issue relating to the implementation of a lake patrol has not yet been resolved. Your Lake Committee is working hard to get boat patrol implemented. We are hopeful Doubletree's management will soon have this issue resolved so that boat patrol may be a regular part of our lake's safety.
An boating accident occurred last month on the lake. I'm happy to report that no serious injuries were sustained. Doubletree is investigating. |
| Catch of the Month |
| 5 lbs 10 ounces |
Doubletree Angler Bill Williams holds up a Doubletree Trophy Bass for the camera. Holding true to the fisherman's credo he offered no comment on where exactly the fish was caught or what type of lure was used. After the snapshot Bill proudly returned the fish to the lake to be caught again another day.
Nice Catch, Bill!!! |

| To keep Doubletree Lake free from damaging plants & animals.. |
- REMOVE visible plants and animals from your boat, trailer, and other boating equipment before leaving any water access.
- DRAIN water from your boat, motor, livewell, and bait containers before leaving the water access. To keep unused bait at spiny water flea- or zebra mussel-infested waters, drain and replace with tap or spring water.
- DISPOSE of unwanted bait in trash. Never release live bait.
- SPRAY, RINSE, OR DRY boats and equipment. Before transporting to another body of water, spray/rinse with high pressure and/or hop tap water (above 104 degrees) or dry at least five days.
- REPORT new sightings to the DNR.
Doubletree is a beautiful lake.. let's keep it that way. | |
