JAB Spotlight: David Lawrence, Jr.  Dear JABBERS: With children heading back to school this month, it's only fitting that our August spotlight shine on David Lawrence, Jr., a renowned early childhood education advocate - and JAB Advisory Board Member. After a long career in journalism, which included serving as publisher of The Miami Herald, David set his sights on changing the lives of children through education. After seeing a great need for reform, he became president of the Early Childhood Initiative Foundation and the Children's Movement of Florida, educating political, business and civic leaders on the importance of making children a top priority for investment and decision-making in Florida. He also led two successful campaigns to win taxpayer support for The Children's Trust, a dedicated source of early intervention and prevention funding for children in Miami-Dade. He was a key figure in getting a statewide constitutional amendment passed that offers a free pre-kindergarten educationto all four-year-olds. David continues to work tirelessly on behalf of children. He recently joined the University of Miami School of Education and Human Development as an "Education and Community Leadership Scholar," where he will serve as a guest lecturer to impart his knowledge and experience to students eager to learn from such a prolific leader. We applaud David's perseverance and dedication to giving a voice to children and demanding that they be heard. Thank you for all you do, David. Happy JABBING!

Beloved Coral Gables Fixture Passes Away at 95
From Team JAB  Many of you knew Marge Hartnett. She was the vibrant woman who went about town in her signature festive glasses and covered in rose accessories. She said in a 2011 Coral Gables Chamber of Commerce video, ""everything's coming up roses - and that's my theme!" Sadly, Marge passed away yesterday morning from cancer at the age of 95. Marge was a fixture in Coral Gables for more than 60 years and leaves behind a legacy of service and commitment to the community she loved so dearly. To read more about Marge, click HERE. Can You Hear Me Now?
We recently moved and have no cell phone signal in our new house. Looking at our statistics, you are not the only one! There are currently only 138 rentals on the market in Coral Gables. This month alone, 90 properties in Coral Gables have rented, and last month 110 were rented. We're practically renting the units as fast as we are listing them! As would be expected, rental rates are on the rise considering the demand we are seeing for them. Where to Turn for Help?
JABBERS, your advice is needed! A 15-year-old child is demonstrating destructive behavior. Unfortunately, social workers could not help, nor could a mental hospital hold the child for very long due to the age. The child has even been Baker Acted in three cities but nothing has helped since the child does not demonstrate any "issues" according to professionals. Behavioral schools aren't an option because of the high monthly costs so I am looking for an alternative way to help this child. Do you have any suggestions and/or advice on what can be done for this struggling teenager? I appreciate your feedback.
