A Note from Boo
DEAR JABBERS: There is nothing like spending a few days with real heroes to help you put things in perspective. Last weekend I had the privilege of traveling to Washington DC for my second iPadsForSoldiers.org trip. We visited Walter Reed Army Medical Center, where we distributed about 40 iPad 2s to injured US troops. The iPads were purchased by iPadsForSoldiers.org, a not-for-profit organization launched iPad Trip by Winnie and Wes Pritchett when their son Wes was serving our country in a year-long deployment to Afghanistan. This trip marked the last of almost 1,000 iPads (so far) delivered to soldiers in the US and abroad. Traveling with us were several volunteers including the Pritchetts, Amy Zambrano, who works tirelessly alongside them to operate the non-profit, and Angelo Demos, a retired Colonel who shared his memories of WWII, giving the soldiers hope and incentive to forge ahead. JABBERS, you were there in spirit. Many of you have contributed to this cause either directly, or by encouraging your child's school to participate in the "Dress Down Day" fundraiser.

Some of you might remember that after last year's mission, I shared the story of Nick Vogt, a young soldier who was seriously injured by an IUD bomb in southern Afghanistan. Despite severe injuries, including the loss of both legs, and receiving more blood transfusions than any other US soldier in history, He will soon be walking with prosthetics, and plans to attend medical school and become a doctor. (You can follow his progress HERE and watch an inspirational video HERE). What a smile. What a spirit. What a hero.

Unmeasured Strength I also had the honor of getting to know Lauren Manning, a 9/11 survivor. After spending six months in the hospital and recovering from severe burns that covered more than 82 percent of her body, Lauren wrote a book - a New York Times best seller - called Unmeasured Strength. Katie Couric called Lauren a hero and Lauren countered, contending she is not a hero, she's a survivor. If you ask me, she's both.

Thank you, JABBERS, for your ongoing support of our troops. Happy JABBING!

Coral Gables Market Update: A Look Back
By Ashley Cusack, EWM Realtors:  REPLY  Ashley Cusack
On March 4, 2011, I ran an article in JAB about the non-distressed market in Coral Gables between $500,000 - $1million. Today I wanted to see how it has changed and I'm amazed at the improvements we have seen! What a comeback this market has made! Back then, there were 103 houses on the market and the average selling price per square foot was $235. Today there are only 70 on the market and our average is $267/sq ft. That's a 14% price increase in only 17 months! You probably remember me saying that 6-12 months of inventory is considered a "healthy" market.  Back then, we had 11 months of inventory, which was considered stable. Today, we only have a 4.9 month supply! We averaged 8 sales per month in early 2011, and today it's at 21 per month - almost triple the number of sales! Realtors are definitely feeling this change, and it's nice to see the statistics proving it! To visit my website, click HERE.*
