Does Anyone Suffer From Paraskevidekatriaphobics? From Team JAB What is paraskevidekatriaphobics, you ask? A morbid, irrational fear of Friday the 13th, of course! According to some sources, it's the most widespread superstition in the United States today. Some people refuse to go to work on Friday the 13th, others won't eat in restaurants, and many wouldn't think of setting a wedding on the date. Here are a few other lesser known facts about today's ill-fated date: - According to Dr. Donald Dossey, a psychotherapist specializing in the treatment of phobias and coiner of the term paraskevidekatriaphobics (thank goodness for copy and paste, by the way), as many as 21 million people may suffer from this phobia. That equals roughly 8% of Americans.
- The sixth day of the week and the number 13 have both induced fear dating back to ancient times, although no one really knows why. And in certain ancient civilizations, the number 13 was actually lucky - so go figure.
- There are three occurrences of Friday the 13th in 2012, and - wait for it - they each take place 13 weeks apart. The other two were in January and April.

Attention Sellers: Nine Tips for a Great Showing! By Ashley Cusack, EWM Realtors: REPLY Here's a rundown of my most critical tips for sellers: Keep your house immaculate with shoes put away, towels hung and sinks dish-free - the cleaner the better! Be sure to leave the house. Buyers don't like to look at houses when the sellers are home. Take some time to freshen up the paint on the walls, baseboards and moldings. Paint makes a huge difference and doesn't cost much. Before showing, de-clutter and clear counters and throw away old toys. Have a garage sale BEFORE you list, not after you've sold the house and are moving. Scale back your family photos. You want people looking at the house, not your portraits. Be flexible with your showings to accommodate buyers. Don't forget to be mindful of odor - smells can really drive buyers away. Finally, curb appeal can seal the deal. Plant flowers and keep the front looking great. To read more detail about any of these, visit my website HERE!* |

Water, Water Everywhere My bay window is leaking and I'm not sure if the water is coming in through the metal roof or the window. Direct Me to a Dog Whisperer
From Jennifer Herskowitz: REPLY My family and I adopted an amazing rescue dog last year. We love her dearly, but need help correcting a few behaviors. We are looking for a dog whisperer who can come to our home in Palmetto Bay and work with her on not barking at guests and hopefully ease her anxiety during rainstorms (we've tried the vest thing and it didn't help). If you know of someone, let me know! Thank you.
