This Dog Truly is a "Trooper"
From Team JAB
Last week, we ran a heartbreaking story on "Trooper," a chocolate lab who was hit by a car and left severely injured on the side of a road. Well, Denise Madan, the JABBER who found "Trooper" and alerted us to his condition, has wonderful news to share. Scooby (aka Trooper) has been reunited with his family! Mike Miller, a local police officer, watched a news story about an injured dog and knew it was his beloved Scooby. Mike and his sons are thrilled to have Scooby back in their lives and can't wait to give him lots of love and affection. Denise writes, "Thank you for posting Scooby's story last week. Everyone involved, every step of the way got us to his reunion. Thank you for always supporting our community." Thanks to the help of generous JABBERS, Denise has raised almost $3,500 for Scooby's care.

Tricky People are the New StrangersFrom Team JAB Did you know that it takes less than a minute for a predator to lure a child away? With summer upon us, children have more free time so be sure to teach your kids to be safe and aware of their surroundings. Certified Prevention Educator, Pattie Fitzgerald, offers interesting insight on how to protect your children. One of her main points is to replace the word "strangers" with "tricky people". She says, "Stop telling your kids not to talk to strangers. They might need to talk to a stranger one day. Instead, teach them which sorts of strangers are safe. You know who's safe? A mom with kids. Period. Your kid gets separated from you at the mall? Tell her to flag down the first mom with kids she sees." Pattie mentions that it's not what someone looks like, it is what they say or do that makes them unsafe or "tricky". Teach Your Kids to Enjoy the Water Safely
"When my husband and I were looking for a swimming instructor for our two-year-old, Tall Thom was the name we heard repeatedly. We were not disappointed. He is, in a word, wonderful! Thom understands children, their abilities, limitations and perhaps, most importantly, temperament. He has the skills, patience and sense of humor to work with children and teach them not only how to swim but to enjoy the water. We can hardly wait for our ten-month-old to start classes with him this summer," says Iris K. Call Tall Thom at 772.618.3599 or email HERE.*

The Appraisal Roller Coaster By Ashley Cusack, EWM Realtors I haven't talked about appraisals for a while because we haven't had much trouble with them. However, since the market started picking up, they've become an issue again. Buyers are willing to pay reasonable prices for homes today and things are selling quickly. Often we are getting multiple offers, which just further substantiates the prices. But over and over, appraisals are coming in low. It's a result of the fact that the comps being used sold several months ago, and prices have been on the rise. Here's how we are dealing with it: recommending our clients get the appraisal done up front so less time is wasted if the house doesn't appraise; getting buyers to sign up front that they are willing to accept an appraisal even if it comes in below the purchase price; recognizing the value of a cash offer. This too shall pass! To visit Ashley's website, click HERE.* |
