JAB Spotlight: Paul Dee (1947-2012)
Dear JABBERS: Our spotlight in May is shining on Paul Dee, a respected and esteemed figure in higher education and the community. Sadly, Paul passed away on May 12th but he leaves behind a bright legacy.
For more than 30 years, Paul dedicated his life and passion to the University of Miami. At the time of his passing, he was a professor in the School of Education and Human Development and was due to retire as a proud Hurricane on June 1st.
Paul served as the venerable director of athletics from 1993-2008, winning three national titles: two in baseball and one in football. During his tenure, he oversaw more than $80 million in athletic facility improvements, including the greatly anticipated on-campus basketball arena and improvements to Mark Light Stadium, the university's baseball facility. Paul championed for gender equity and was the force behind the addition of women's soccer, women's volleyball and women's rowing.
Prior to that, he had been vice president and general counsel since 1981. He was inducted into the University of Miami Sports Hall of Fame and was a member of the Iron Arrow Society, UM's most prestigious honor.
An ardent supporter and champion of UM, Paul will be remembered for his great contributions to the university and in turn, our community, which benefits from such a prestigious institution. Next time you walk into the basketball arena to cheer on the team in orange and green, take your kids to the ballpark for an afternoon of Hurricane baseball or root for the ladies on the volleyball squad, remember the legacy that Paul leaves behind. On behalf of all who JAB, thank you, Paul.

A Puppy in Paris
My husband and I enjoy traveling to Paris and would like to take our 80-pound yellow lab, Beast. Beast is a happy, well-adjusted 4-year-old whom I love too much to put in cargo. Does anyone know of a way to get Beast to Paris and back without putting him in cargo? I'd like a commercial flight or a private charter firm who is experienced with taking larger four-legged friends. Thank you so much!
