Not a JABBER? That Simply Can't Be!

Are all your friends JABBERS? Forward this newsletter
and remind them to join our online grapevine!

Dear JABBERS: A few weeks ago I presented you with a sappy note about how I am beside myself over the fact that my eight-year-old daughter is leaving me for a week this summer to attend sleep-away camp for the first time. Well, I'm sorry to report my condition has not improved. I am freaking out. I had a conversation recently with the mother of one of my girl friends, who basically told me to get over it. So instead of dwelling on the negative, I am going to focus on the
Caroline and her trunk
positive and make Caroline excited for her week of fun without mom and dad!  She's already looking forward to the water blob, horseback riding, art and dance classes, and most importantly, making new friends. We have purchased the trunk and even had personalized camp notecards printed so she can write letters in her spare time (ha!). But I keep delaying the trip to Target with the camp-provided packing list. You know what they say about denial ... it's not just a river in Egypt. I know the week will go by quickly and that she'll have the time of her life. Question is, will I survive it?

Happy camping, JABBERS!

-Boo

Summer Fun Means Summer Sun

From Team JABsun
The summer months bring lots of outdoor activities so be sure to be careful while you're having fun in the sun. Here are a few sun safety tips:

-Stay out of the sun between 10 am and 3 pm, when the sun's rays are strongest.

-If you are going to be in the sun for any length of time, find an area with "structured shade," such as a wooded clearing, to block as much of the sun as possible. The sun is strongest at the beach, where sand and water reflect the sun's damaging rays.

-Always apply a generous, uniform amount of sunscreen with an SPF (sun protection factor) of at least 15. Reapply regularly if you go swimming or stay in the sun for a long time.

-If the sunscreen is waterproof, let it dry 30 minutes before going in the water.

-Use sunscreen even on cloudy days, especially if you plan to be outside for any length
of time.

-Keep infants out of the sun. Start using sunscreen on children at 6 months of age and limit their exposure. Sunscreens are not approved for infants younger than 6 months.

-Wear sunglasses and protective clothing, such as hats. If you burn easily, long sleeve shirts and long pants can provide added protection.
