Our Apologies

We would like to acknowledge the following High Holy Day Pledges which were not listed correctly in our Yom Kippur Gift Acknowledgement Book:

  • Gabriella Auspitz Labson - $1,000 - In honor of Rabbi Rosenthal's informative and inspiring Kol Nidre sermon on the State of Israel and in honor of Noah Friedman's singing which touched my soul

  • Gussie Zaks - $1,000 - In memory of Mike Zaks and the Six Million and in honor of my children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren

Thank you for your kindness and generosity.

Dear Friends:

On Yom Kippur I announced that we had engaged a new Abraham Ratner Torah School Director, but I did not reveal any details.

Education Vice President Lisa Berman-Hernandez and I are thrilled to inform you that Talia Rachel White will serve as our new Torah School Director beginning on October 10, 2012.

Talia White
Talia Rachel White
Talia recently moved to San Diego from Los Angeles. Before her move, she taught for six years at Stephen S. Wise Temple Elementary School in Bel Air and directed their Summer Camp for two years. She was also the Judaica Specialist at Temple Beth Haverim in Agoura Hills, and taught at Temple Beth Am's Pressman Academy Religious School in Los Angeles, and in the religious school at Temple Beth Sholom in Chula Vista.

Talia is very familiar with San Diego, as she received her BA in Modern Judaic Studies from SDSU. She also has an MA in Education from the University of Judaism (now American Jewish University), a California Multiple-Subject Teaching Credential, and a Certificate in Day School Teaching. She also studied at the Pardes Institute of Jewish Studies in Jerusalem, Israel.

Talia has received numerous awards and commendations, including being named a DeLeT Fellow (Day School Leadership through Teaching). She is enthusiastic, energetic, and has a long-standing personal and professional commitment to excellence in Jewish Education.

If that were not enough, she also has four years of training in Krav Maga (Israeli martial arts)!

We welcome Talia to Tifereth Israel Synagogue. We are confident that she will be a blessing to our children, congregation, and community. We will schedule an opportunity for you to meet her in the near future. Please watch your email for the date and time.

Project Isaiah - We Can Do More!

We're lonely!
This year's High Holy Day food drive produced disappointing results. Last year we filled almost half of our lobby.

It is not too late to help those less fortunate. Please bring your contribution of non-perishable food to Tifereth Israel Synagogue within the next two weeks.

Shabbat Shalom,

Rabbi Leonard Rosenthal
