     House Bill 289
Short-term 'pay day' loans often carry excessive interest rates that compound quickly over short repayment periods. Delaware's House of Representatives is currently considering a bill (HB 289) that would limit the number of such loans issued and require that they be tracked annually. Jen's Story
It can happen at any time - an unexpected bill comes due: a car repair, hospital expenses, even unusually high utility costs. Such unforeseen events lead some to seek the ostensible convenience of payday loans, often at exorbitant interest rates.

West End offers an alternative to payday loans via its Loans Plus program. Click here to read more about the program, and how it helped Jen Ford get back on track, and headed down the road toward financial stability...
               Community Gardening
Community Gardens
On Saturday, April 21st, nearly 75 local residents and community members turned out to help prepare Wilmington's largest community garden (located at 10th and Clayton Streets) for the summer growing season. Many thanks to all who volunteered, and especially to Andrew DiSabatino of EDIS Company and Tony Casale of Casale Construction for donating the compost and transportation respectively for the second year in a row!.

The community gardens are part of a larger neighborhood revitalization project through the West Side Grows initiative. To learn more about West Side Grows, visit their Facebook page.
