In recent weeks, we have all seen how cases of infectious diseases are being used to point the finger of blame at the unvaccinated. From the 12, 13 or 25 cases of measles (depending upon which media report you listen to - we still have not been able to get answers to the questions we have asked of QLD health about such basic issues as how many cases were confirmed in this 'outbreak' and how many of them were in unvaccinated children) to the outbreak of whooping cough in Tasmania, unequivocally, the cause has been some mysterious and invisible unvaccinated child. It could be your child. It could be my child. Because when it comes down to it, we all irresponsible, uncaring and downright stupid "dummy mummies"* (and dummy daddies too, I suppose) whose actions are spreading disease and destruction through the community. Shame on us!
 
Of course, that is all tongue in cheek. But what has brought this issue to the forefront once again has been the tragic death of a very young infant in my own local area. Dana McCaffery. I cannot imagine what her parents must be going through right now - I hope none of us ever has to know this sort of pain. But the fact is that children are regularly dying and being permanently injured by vaccines and they remain invisible - denied and disregarded. 
 
Below is the most recent article to be printed on this subject - in this weekend's Northern Star Lismore newspaper. The editor of the Northern Star needs to hear from you - especially if you or someone you love has been affected by vaccines in any way. A child is a child. A life is a life. A death is a death. All are important - all are equal - and ALL should be taken seriously.

Baby Dana sparks big reaction
FROM Prime Minister Kevin Rudd to ordinary people across the world, the whooping cough death of baby Dana McCaffery has touched the hearts of thousands. Now Dana's parents, Toni and David, are enlisting those thousands to help raise awareness about the whooping cough epidemic and to encourage vaccination.

"Our daughter's death is a direct result of the low vaccination rates in our region, and the failure of government on all levels to warn the community of the danger of the whooping cough epidemic."

ALL Deaths are Tragedies
The death of Dana McCaffery is indeed a tragedy. Any child's death is devastating to his or her family, the extended family and those who know and love them. But why then is Dana's death front page news while Luke Wilson, a 22-month old, perfectly healthy boy who died after becoming ill from the MMR (measles, mumps rubella) vaccine never makes the papers? Or Lila Rose Belkin who died at 5 weeks of age after receiving a Hepatitis B vaccine booster. Or the 25-year old nurse from Lismore who was told that she would lose her job if she didn't get vaccinated - after already being injured by previous vaccines. She gave in and took the shot but was sickened straight away, her condition worsening over a period of more than 12 months when she passed away as a result of the vaccine she had been pressured into having against her wishes.

All deaths are important and, while we need to know the statistics of those who die from diseases, it is just as important to know how many are dying or being permanently injured by vaccines. This is very difficult if not impossible since ADRAC, the government body that tracks and maintains a database on vaccine reactions, admits that only between 1-10% of these reactions are ever reported.

There are 2 sides to every story. Dana's death is tragic - but whether it was preventable because of vaccines or due to exposure to an unvaccinated person as is being implied in the media, is unknown. Doctors have told Dana's family that due to the timing of her illness and the fact that she got whooping cough so young, it was more than likely that she was exposed during her hospital stay. In recent years, a whooping cough outbreak started in the Hunter region of NSW when a fully-vaccinated paediatric nurse developed whooping cough. She continued to work in the hospital nursery because she had been told that since she was vaccinated, she didn't have whooping cough. It was only after several infants under her care came down with whooping cough that she was finally diagnosed - too late to help those children.

According to the government's own statistics, we currently have the highest rate of whooping cough vaccination - more than 95% across Australia - and the highest rate of reported whooping cough cases since we started keeping records. And that high rate is not on the North Coast of NSW where vaccination rates are lower - but in some of the areas of NSW where compliance with vaccination policies is near the top of the range - Western Sydney and the Hunter regions.

So rather than pointing the finger of blame for little Dana's death at those people who made an informed choice not to vaccinate because they feel that the vaccines aren't safe or effective - let's start looking at why it is that the vaccine so obviously isn't working.

 

Dana's exposure to whooping cough is unknown at present. But since the vast majority of those getting whooping cough have been fully and appropriately vaccinated against it, one would have to wonder if a vaccinated person - one who was under the false impression that if they were vaccinated, they could no longer get the disease or pass it on - may have been the true source for Dana's illness. But such conjecture does nothing to make Dana's family feel better, to give them closure or to prevent such tragedies occurring in the future.

 

If we truly want to ensure that Australia's children are healthy, then we need to devote government funds into doing the basic research into the safety and effectiveness of vaccines - research which in over 200 years of vaccination, has never been done. Double-blind studies to show that those who are vaccinated are both less susceptible to the diseases and healthier too.

Dana's family and the families of all those injured and killed by 
vaccines deserve to know the truth. Our government has an obligation to provide us with this information.

Vitally important - new Judicial Watch document on Gardasil vaccine reactions

When the FDA fast-tracked Gardasil, it was with the condition that Merck must conduct a safety surveillance study: 

• The study will include approximately 44,000 vaccinated subjects who will be followed for 60 days for assessment of general short-term safety (i.e., emergency room visits, hospitalizations, and deaths). 
• The subjects will also be followed for 6 months subsequent to vaccination for new autoimmune disorders, rheumatic conditions, or thyroiditis.
• Also, a sufficient number of children 11-12 years of age wll be studied to permit an analysis of safety outcomes.

The study will be completed by June 30, 2009.
The final study report will be submitted by September 30, 2009.
Even though Gardasil will not be fully tested for safety until 2009, physicians are already pushing it as a routine, harmless vaccine.
 
Harvard Medical Students Rebel Against Big Pharma Ties
Two hundred Harvard Medical School students are confronting the school's administration, demanding an end to pharmaceutical industry influence in the classroom.

The students worry that pharmaceutical industry scandals in recent years, including criminal convictions, billions of dollars in fines, proof of bias in research and publishing and false marketing claims, have cast a bad light on the medical profession. Is it somehow possible - and I know I'm going out on a limb here - that journalists wilfully misinterpret and ignore scientific evidence, in order to generate stories that reflect their own political and cultural prejudices? Because my friend Martin, from the Layscience blog, has made an excellent discovery. State Health Official Calls Polio Case Extremely Rare 
The Minnesota Department of Health says an adult who died in March and was infected with the same strain of polio in the oral polio vaccine likely contracted the virus over a decade ago but only recently showed symptoms. The cause of death may not have been polio, however, as the individual had numerous health problems. Department spokesperson Dr. Aaron DeVries says there is no cause for concern, and polio cases tied to the oral vaccine are very rare. The oral vaccine was discontinued in the United States nine years ago, but worldwide about four dozen polio cases have been traced to the oral vaccine since 1961. Five unvaccinated Amish children residing in Minnesota were found to be infected with the oral polio vaccine virus back in 2005, but none developed polio, and their infections are not tied to the recent death.

Breast-Feeding Blocks Pain of Infant Vaccination
Breastfeeding an infant may significantly reduce pain from vaccinations, Turkish researchers suggest. Led by Dr. Dilek Dilli at Ankara Training and Research Hospital, the investigators randomly assigned 158 infants under six months of age to breastfeeding or no breastfeeding during routine immunization. Another 85 children between the ages of six months and two years were assigned to receive a 12 percent sucrose solution, a topical lidocaine-prilocaine cream, or no intervention while receiving immunizations. Using the Neonatal Infant Pain Scale or the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario Pain Scale, pediatricians evaluated the children's crying times. The breastfeeding, sucrose, or lidocaine-prilocaine all significantly reduced crying time and pain scores compared with controls. The study is published in the Journal of Pediatrics.
