Visiting Writer's Series: Mira Bartok & Chris Dombrowski Tuesday, September 27, 7pm Knickerbocker Theatre
The series will open its season on Tuesday, Sept. 27, with the Fifth Annual Tom Andrews Memorial Reading. This year's memorial reading will feature two Hope alumni: poet Chris Dowbrowski and memoirist Mira Bartok. Chris Dowbrowski, who graduated from the college in 1998, is the author of the poetry collection "By Cold Water," a finalist for "ForeWord Magazine's" "Poetry Book of the Year," and the chapbook "Fragments with Dusk in Them," by Punctilious Press. Mira Bartok, who attended Hope in the latter 1970s before attending art school in Chicago, wrote "The Memory Palace" and 28 books for children, and has been recognized as a "New York Times" bestselling author and noted in "The Best American Essays" series.

Midnight in Paris Thursday-Saturday, September 22-24 Knickerbocker Theatre
Set in Paris, the Woody Allen romantic comedy film focuses on two young people who are engaged to be married in the fall and have experiences while visiting the city that change their lives. The film is about a young man's great love for a city, Paris, and the illusion people have that a life different from theirs would be much better. It stars Owen Wilson, Rachel McAdams, Marion Cotillard, Kathy Bates, and Carla Bruni, among others.

"Sylvia" Friday-Sunday, Sept. 23-25 & Sept. 30-Oct. 1 Fri. and Sat. performances: 7:30pm, Sun. at 2pm The Red Barn Theatre
A. R. Gurney's modern romantic comedy about a marriage and a dog.
The original production won several Critic's Choice awards when it was first mounted in 1995 with Sarah Jessica Parker in the title role. The plot features several cosmic and comic twists that tests the relationship of a suburban couple who move to the big city after their children grow up and leave home. Daniel DeWaard is Greg, the man who brings Sylvia home. Vicki Kavanagh is wife Kate, who dislikes Sylvia on sight.

Mat Kearney Concert Monday, September 26, 8pm- Sold Out Knickerbocker Theatre
The Hope College Concert Series will host Mat Kearney on Monday, Sept. 26, at 8 p.m. at the Knickerbocker Theatre in downtown Holland.
Kearney will be headlining the night with a full band, drawing not only from his first two critically acclaimed albums, but also from his most recent offering, "Young Love." His third full-length album debuted at number one on iTunes and has been met with widespread praise.

Three Scholars Concert Tuesday, September 27, 7:30p.m. Dimnent Memorial Chapel
The three scholars are Hope alumni Susan De Kam and Richard Newman, as well as University of Toronto alumnus Aaron Tan.
De Kam will open the concert with "Concert Overture in C minor," by Alfred Hollins; "Master Tallis's Testament," by Herbert Howells; and "Variations on a Theme of Paganini," by Thalben-Ball. Newman will perform "Marche Héroique," by Herbert Brewer; and "Sonata in E flat Major: I Andante serioso, ma con moto, II Allegro giocoso and III Maestoso," by Edward Bairstow. Tan will perform "Sonata in G Major, Op. 28" by Edward Elgar. For more information |

River North Chicago Dance Sponsored by Hope College's Great Performance Series Thursday-Friday, September 29 & 30, 7:30pm Knickerbocker Theatre
Under the direction of Artistic Director Frank Chaves, River North is a jazz-based contemporary company. The "Chicago Sun-Times" has described River North Chicago Dance Company as "enthralling, a hugely attractive and technically impressive company," while "The Arizona Republic" has said that the company "Sizzled like ice droplets on a hot skillet."
