Other industries expecting job growth between 2009 - 2019 are Renewable Energy (40% job growth) and IT, Computers, Digital/Creative Media (16% job growth).  Click on the link above to see which jobs require post secondary degrees and how much these jobs are expected to pay.

Early College Start for Austin High Schools
AiISD_logoAt their April Board meeting, Austin ISD Trustees authorized Superintendent Meria Carstarphen to move forward with a contract with the Texas High School Project to create Early College High School models for Reagan and LBJ high schools.

The goal of the Early College program is to create a college-ready culture on the two campuses. Early College High Schools are small, innovative schools that allow students who are least likely to attend college an opportunity to earn a high school diploma and two years of college credit, at no cost to the student.  Students also are provided with additional support such as counseling, mentoring and tutoring.  The program eases the transition from high school to college, by blending high school and college curriculum into a cohesive unit.
Mental Health Awareness

May is Mental Health Awareness month and Thursday, May 6th is National Children's Mental Health Awareness Day.  Local events include a children's art exhibit at the State Capitol, a Blue October concert and other educational and fun activities to remove the stigma of mental illness and to promote treatment.  Visit the Austin Travis County Integral Care website to learn more about events to celebrate Mental Health Awareness Month and Children's Mental Health Awareness Day.

Local Mental Health System Selected for National Pilot
Austin Travis County Integral Care was selected as one of five national pilot programs designed to reduce the reliance on law enforcement officers to intervene when people are experiencing a psychiatric emergency.  In collaboration with four other sites from across the country, and under the coordination of the Bazelon Center for Mental Health Law, ATCIC will collaborate with key stakeholders to further improve the effectiveness of community mental health services, especially those provided to people with serious mental illnesses. The Bazelon Center will provide partial funding for three years.  Additional funding and support will be provided by the City of Austin, St. David's Foundation, the Hogg Foundation for Mental Health and Travis County. Learn more about this effort on the ATCIC website.
