87% of Texas Communities Exceed U.S. Poverty Rate
mom and daughterJanuary is Poverty Awareness Month.  87% of Texas communities exceed the U.S. poverty rate, according to an analysis of Census data by John Henneberger with Texas Housers.   The Austin metro area is one of only 6 communities in Texas that has a poverty rate below the national average, but, as Henneberger notes, affluent suburban neighborhoods dilute the overall rate for the Austin-Round Rock Metropolitan Statistical Area.
