SAIL THE PRISTINE SEAS OF NUSA TENGARA
The No Roads philosophy of getting to remote, pristine locations, where there are no roads is now taken a step further, with our Sailing Expeditions in Indonesia.
We have lined up several expeditions to some of the most beautiful and rarely visited places in the archipelago. No only that, we have catered for all types of budgets and needs. This year we have boats sailing to the Komodo Islands from Flores as well as boats running out of Lombok and Bali. These expeditions are for those that want to get away from it all and see and experience things few have before them. And in 2009 we are off to Sumba and Raja Empat (we're glad you haven't heard them, but trust us they are superb).
And best of, they are on your own Private Charter boat. That's right, get a small group together and you can be snorkeling, SCUBA Diving and exploring to your hearts content.

YOUR CHANGING LIVES BY TRAVELLING!
It's not what you do, it's how you do it that counts. This could be said for travelling as well. We all have choices. A choice between an eco-friendly hotel and one that isn't. The choice between eco-friendly tour operators and ones that aren't. The choice is yours. The effect of your choice changes lives. Let me explain. Gunung Rinjani in Indonesia has hundreds of porters walking up and down its massive slopes each year. The altitude these men get to is over 3000m, however many barely have a jumper to keep themselves warm. Some return home, sick, unable to work their own land due to illness. You can choose between an operator that provides warm clothing to its porters and one that doesn't, simple. Or in PNG, where hundreds of porters help Australians along the Kokoda Track. You can support a company that has workers compensation for the porters, above recommended wages, good food and equipment and maximum weight limits for its porter team. Or you can choose one that doesn't. Or in Nepal, you can choose an operator that kits its climbing crew out with warm wind proof Gortex clothing or not. The list goes on. How you decide to travel can really change people's lives in a positive way. Your choice can ensure the people that help you achieve your goals return home with a fare wage, healthy and happy. Please think before you purchase. |

KOKODA TRACK OPEN FOR 2008. Far too much negative press has been written about the Kokoda Track recently, concerning its closure. We have been in constant contact with our operations in PNG with 2 visits from our Australian management team. We have been informed that the Track is open for business.
The PNG Government has refused an Exploration Licence to Frontier Mining. The people of Nauro, who may have been direct beneficiaries of the mine have now been pledged compensation from the PNG Government.
Jack Deia, our in country Operations Manager, has been at the forefront of negotiations between the Government and the Land Owners. This new deal ensures the Tracks future for this and many years to come.

REPAIRING THE FLY ON YOUR TENT. HOW?
You are laying there at night and the heavens open up. The sound of the rain on the tent lulls you off to sleep and then, splat!. A drop of water drips on your face and you discover that tent you borrowed from your "friend" has a hole in it. The following is how you can repair that hole the next morning.
Equipment needed:
-Packing tape.
-Urethane glue such as Freesole or SeamGrip®.
-A piece of tent netting fabric that covers the rip and extends 5mm past each edge.
This repair is almost invisible from the outside when used for tears, but a transparent spot will remain when used for larger holes.
1.On the outside surface of the fabric, cover the hole or tear with clear packing tape. Hold the edges of the tear together while placing the tape. Do not use duct tape - it will leave a sticky residue when you remove it.
2.On the inside surface, spread a thin layer of glue over the tear, extending about 5mm past the edges. If the fabric is lined, open a seam near the tear to access the inside of the shell fabric.
3.Place the piece of netting over the wet glue to add strength to the repair.
4.Allow the glue to dry for 24 hours.
5.Remove the tape from the face fabric. If there are any loose fibers or threads remaining, you can carefully flash burn them away with a lighter.
6.Dust the dried glue with talcum powder or cornstarch to prevent the repair from bonding to itself when folded. Re-stitch the seam if you're working on a lined garment.

Kili's Western Breach Open!
In December 2007, Kilimanjaro's Western Breach was opened after being closed for nearly 2 years. The closure was due to a terrible accident in which several American climbers and local porters were killed in an avalanche. The Breach, although a spectacular way to climb to Uhuru, is dangerous due to Global Warming melting its icy slopes. No Roads does run expeditions up the Western Breach, however this route is only open to experienced climbers. Want to know more about Kilimanjaro? |
