CLIMBING NEPAL'S PEAKS IN 2008
With a new round of peace talks between the Maoists and the Nepal Government, Nepal is welcoming back visitors in greater and greater numbers. While the political landscape has changed, Nepal's geological landscape remains one of the planet's greatest attractions.
Now is the time to plan for your trip to Nepal in 2008. For those looking for a high altitude high, we have added several new trekking peaks to our already impressive selection.
Next year we will be offering expeditions to Mera Peak, Island Peak, Lobuche, Chulu West, Pisang Peak and Yala Peak. All offer varying degrees of adventure. All offer altitudes of 6000m+.
These expedition are all led by our well trained team and are supported by great equipment including Portable Altitude Chambers and separate Meal and Cooking Tents. We even provide a Climbing Clinic to teach you how to use crampons, carabineer and ropes.
If you are thinking of a real challenge for 2008, then come and join us on a Climbing Expedition in Nepal.

6 YEAR OLD COMPLETES RINJANI TRAVERSE!
Last month we told you about the oldest trekker to walk the Kokoda Track, Ern Walker. This month we are proud to announce the youngest trekker to traverse the Rinjani National Park. On the 16th August, 6year old Anna Emmanuel amazingly walked from Lawang to Senaru in our 4 day expedition. While she did not attempt the summit section, little Anna trekked the inner walls of the caldera and the rim sections, totally unassisted. With the encouragement of her family and our team, Anna successfully made it Lawang, proud and happy.
This is an awesome accomplishment. It just shows us that you are never too old or young to do anything. Well done Anna.

HELP SAVE THE ORANGUTANS! It should be no secret to anyone now that the rapid deforestation of Borneo and Sumatra is endangering the very existence of one of the world's most likeable creatures, the Orangutan. Sharing 97% of our own genetic make up, it is no wonder that when you stare into the eyes of an Orangutan (Forest People) you feel like you are looking into humanities distant past.
Our Save The Orangutan Expedition tries to achieve this in several ways. First, the fact that you will get up close and personal with these creatures and their habit will make you an instant environmentalist. You will feel a sense of needing to help and you probably will. Second, No Roads will donate $500 from your expedition fee to several NGO's that are chartered to protect the Orangutan's habitat and the Orangutan themselves. If there is one place you visit, you must visit the Orangutans of southern Borneo. Want to know more about the Orangutan Expedition? |

HOW TO SLIP A BRIBE? VERY HANDY!
Traveling with cigarettes and access to a bottle of Johnny Walker can get you a long way with recalcitrant officials. When a low paid government servant starts stroking his chin and proclaiming that "there is a problem," you can use the "lubricators" as either a service fee or to get a few wheels in motion. What you must establish first and foremost is who really is in charge; there are plenty of imposter chiefs out there. Then, rather than argue or provoke a confrontation, try asking, 'What does it take for there not to be a problem?' Keep in mind that it's never a bribe but a small fee for the 'help' you are going to get, and it is passed discreetly, with a smile.

Kilimanjaro!
Kilimanjaro!
Kilimanjaro!

These are the words to a song our Porters sing around camp at night. It is a song of the mountain and what it means to their lives. It is a song that once heard, it will never leave your mind. In 2008, we are taking trekkers to the Roof of Africa, led for the first time by one of our experienced Australian Guides. At no extra cost, you could be shown Kilimanjaro by our Australian Guide Team. Want to know more? | |
