LOS ANGELES (June 12, 2009) - Christopher Street West is pleased to announce its inaugural Parade Day Press Conference will be held on Sunday, June 14, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. in the intersection of Crescent Heights and Santa Monica Boulevards in the City of West Hollywood kicking off the 39th Annual Pride Parade.
With
hundreds-of-thousands expected along the parade route, and millions expected through the live broadcast streamed on the web at
www.LAPRIDE.org/webcast, Christopher Street West looks forward to this opportunity to reach out on behalf of the advancement of equality, human rights, education and acceptance both within the LGBT community and beyond.
As further momentum has garnered the attention of an expanded audience, celebrity recognition and media coverage, the 2009 Parade Day Press Conference has been scheduled to facilitate a better understanding of this incredible movement now 40 years in the making. Scheduled speakers include West Hollywood Mayor Abbe Land, Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom, Christopher Street West Board President Rodney Scott, Actress Kate Del Castillo, and Kristal Vick, People of Faith Standing Up for Equality.
In addition, honored guests and dignitaries standing together with the LGBT community include, Assemblymember John A. Perez, Rabbi Denise Eger, Reverend Troy Perry, LA PRIDE 2009 Harvey Milk Award-winner, Maria Louise Roman, Equal Roots Founder, Matt Palazzolo, and many other elected officials, allies and community representatives.
Key points to be covered include the LGBT community's determination for equality in light of Proposition 8 and the CA Supreme Court decision, the tough times facing all Californians with the impending, life-threatening budget cuts in healthcare and education, the commemoration of the 40th Anniversary of the Stonewall Riots and how, as a community, along with our allies, we come together to celebrate Pride and face a new day, together.
Parade Day Parking: All permit parking regulations will be lifted from 7 a.m., Saturday, June, 13, through 7 a.m., Monday, June 15. ***All meter parking will still be enforced.*** Early Media Setup is encouraged.
