LOS ANGELES (June 10, 2009) - Christopher Street West will be kicking off the 39th LA PRIDE Parade and Live Broadcast with a live performance from Upright Cabaret featuring some of Broadway's hottest headliners at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, June 14, 2009.
Brought to viewers through the generous support of
Time Warner Cable and the
City of West Hollywood, this special presentation will share the stage with hosts
John Duran and
Lisa Marie Belsanti, parade judges, celebrity appearances and featured community guests. The live Broadcast will air on
West Hollywood Channel 10 throughout the day and streamed on the web at
www.LAPRIDE.org/webcast.
With nearly half-a-million attendees expected, viewers are advised to arrive early as the LA PRIDE Parade steps off at 11:00 a.m. from the intersection of Crescent Heights Blvd. and travels down Santa Monica Blvd. to the main LA PRIDE Festival gate at San Vicente Blvd. The Parade Grandstand is located at the Veteran's Triangle on Santa Monica Blvd. and Holloway Dr. with a birds-eye-view of the largest gathering of the LGBT community in Southern California.
Host John Duran has a longstanding activism record for the LGBT community. A founding partner in the all-gay law firm of Duran and Thomas, John Duran's record of legislative and legal victories is as impressive as his pro-bono activities on the behalf of members of the LGBT community.
Host Lisa Marie Belsanti began her political activism working to elect Gray Davis as Governor. She is now a Management Analyst in the West Hollywood Assistant City Manager's Office. Her involvement in the Stonewall Democratic Club maintains her political activism to this day.
From precisely Noon to 12:01 p.m., all are invited to join in an Annual Silent Celebration where hundreds of thousands of live participants and millions of home viewers are encouraged to take a look at the world today in quiet reflection. Together, there is so much that can be accomplished just by simply taking a brief moment to remember those who are no longer with us, to celebrate those that fight for Pride, the freedoms we now enjoy and our desires for the future.
The ever-expanding production captures the palpable excitement, heartfelt sentiment and meaningful messages of support from those gathered and those marching for greater humanitarian values of the Pride Movement now 40 years in the making. Friends, family and neighbors are all encouraged to come out and be a part of history while reflecting upon a peaceful, relentless and united spirit for the betterment of all human conditions.
