LOS ANGELES
(February 24,
2009)
Christopher Street West, the organization responsible for LA PRIDE announces their new
three-year vision, "PRIDE 365: Power.
Passion. Purpose." Over the
past several years, Christopher Street West has actively transitioned from releasing
an annual "theme" to a more focused community-driven three-year vision.
2009 will launch the first year of their
three-year vision PRIDE 365, utilizing "Power" as their
initial focal point followed by the next two years focusing on "Passion" and
"Purpose" respectively. PRIDE
365 represents the community's collective spirit in carrying LGBT pride
throughout all that we do every day of the
year. This 365-day
spirit of Pride represents an undying commitment
to incorporate dignity, drive, fight for equality and celebration
within all of us wherever we go,
inclusive of every moment of our lives.
Together these
words intimately reflect a cooperative attitude
throughout our community. The idea of Power,
still supports all our common goals to this day. As a community we have seen the power of what
can be achieved by many ordinary people who have given so much in service of
our movement. People like Harvey Milk,
Morris Kight, Connie Norman, and young Lawrence King turned ordinary lives into
the extraordinary with the power of self.
We experience the power of a united people, who march proudly into the
streets and assemble by the hundreds-of-thousands in Pride gatherings around
the world to exclaim that they are Proud of who they are. Passion expresses the dedication
for the humanitarian values our movement represents. We have Passion for a better and more equal
inclusion in the community at large that has inspired thousands to stand up and
take action in ways we haven't experienced since the early days of our
movement. And we have a clear Purpose
to achieve the equality guaranteed in our Country's constitution for all
Americans, young and old, of every ethnicity and color, of all religious
backgrounds and of all sexual orientation.
As stated by Christopher
Street West Board President, Rodney Scott, "with the 40th Anniversary of the Stonewall
Riots, it is time for full equality and the idea of PRIDE 365 embodies a
self-appreciation of ourselves and our community. PRIDE is something
we carry within our hearts, words and actions every day."
