Hi Birdwatchers!

Northern Mockingbird
Northern Mockingbird feasting on berries
Hope you are loving this beautiful fall as much as we are!  It's so nice to be outside this time of year taking in the spectacular fall colors and enjoying the cooler weather.

But we do hear one big complaint every fall - "Where are my birds?" Never fear! Your birds are still around, but Mother Nature provides a bounty of insects, seeds, nuts, berries, pine cones, Sweetgum balls, and so much more this time of year.  Our feeders take  a back seat as songbirds take advantage of nature's buffet!  Even the squirrels seem to be leaving the sunflower seed alone!  You may want to buy seed and suet in smaller amounts to keep it fresh until feeder action picks back up towards the end of the year. And keep an eye on what's in your feeder, making sure it doesn't get clumpy or moldy if it sits for long.

Instead of watching your feeders, watch for birds foraging in the treetops and bushes, or scratching in the leaf litter.  Just the other day we watched a small flock of Goldfinches eating the seeds from a Crepe Myrtle not ten feet away from feeders filled with Sunflower Meats and Niger Seed!   We spotted a Scarlet Tanager feasting on Pokeberries along with a Gray Catbird, Mockingbird and RobinsWhite-breasted Nuthatches love foraging in our River Birch.  White-throated and Song Sparrows are hanging out in the Blackberry bushes.  One spot that is attracting birds is our birdbath!  Don't forget - birds need clean, fresh water year round for drinking and bathing.
