Common nighthawk
Even though it's almost 100 degrees and the middle of summer, "fall" migration has begun for many bird species.

Purple Martins, Chimney Swifts, Barn Swallows and more are migrating now.  As they move southwards, you may get to see large numbers of these birds at their favorite roosts or staging sites.  It's an incredible event to witness.  Last year, we were lucky enough to have a Purple Martin roost at the Mall of Georgia, near our Buford store.  For a few nights we had the privilege of watching thousands of Martins coming in at dusk to roost in the trees.  Common Nighthawks (pictured above) migrate at dusk also, so watch for them on these hot summer nights.  Malls are a great place to watch for Nighthawks since the lights attract their favorite food - moths!

If you are in south Georgia this week, check hayfields for congregating Mississippi and Swallow-tailed Kites.  Their aerial acrobatics are a treat to watch as they hunt for junebugs and other insects on the wing!

A Busy Week for Salvador
