Painted bunting

A customer in Gwinnett
County reported a male Painted Bunting
coming to her feeder late last month.  Typically a coastal bird, this beauty is a very unusual sight north of Macon.  Thanks for sharing your special bird!!!

Ruby Throated Hummingbird
Where are my hummers?

Ruby-throats nest during May, June and early July, so don't expect to see many at your feeders until about mid-July.  Unless you live in a rural area and are lucky enough to have several nesting hummingbirds, it is normal to have little activity at feeders right now.  Keep your feeders clean and fresh for the occasional visitor, be patient, and you will see a lot more hummers after July 4th!

goose and goslings

A Reminder...

Please watch for ducks, geese, turtles, snakes and other critters crossing roads.  Females are looking for sites to lay eggs and/or to move young to safety this time of year.  Just last week we saw three snakes and a snapping turtle crossing busy streets.  There was even a black rat snake climbing our sign at the Buford store!

Hi Birdwatchers!

Acorn birdhouseWith so many songbirds feeding nestlings and fledglings right now, you might notice that  suet and mealworms are going much faster than your bird seed.  Suet is a great high protein food source and with so many no-melt varieties, it can be used even in the hottest weather!  If you haven't tried feeding mealworms to your birds, you are missing out!  Probably no other food source is more popular!  Almost every bird in the neighborhood loves mealworms, and it's so much fun to watch the parents bring their babies in to teach them how to find their own food!

We are also happy to announce that we have found a new mealworm vendor and do not anticipate problems with availability this year!  The mealies are good-sized and healthy!  Just can't deal with live bugs?  We also have freeze-dried mealworms, Suet Pearls and Suet Kibbles, which birds love too!

Our Entire Selection of Bluebird Feeders!!!
Bluebird eating mealworms
Mealworms can be used in several types of feeders, typically called "Bluebird feeders" since many people buy mealworms primarily for Bluebirds.  We have many styles to choose from including some that will exclude larger, more aggressive birds like starlings and mockingbirds.  Ask a helpful associate which bluebird feeder is right for you!

Sale prices good through Sunday, June 6th
