Did You Know...
that "jaywalking" has nothing to do with birds?  The term comes from "jay" meaning a rube, likely one unused to big city streets.

Hi Birdwatchers!
Bluebirds on Woodlink House
Everybody loves Bluebirds!  And now is the perfect time to put out a Bluebird house if you haven't already!  We have lots of good, quality boxes to choose from and everything you need to set them up properly.  Come in and let one of our knowledgeable staff help you pick the house that's right for you (and your Bluebirds!)

Here in Georgia, Bluebirds often have two or three broods from March to August, so one pair can easily produce over a dozen young each year!  And don't forget - feeding during the nesting season helps the parents provide for their young, and you might even be lucky enough to see the fledglings at the feeder once they leave the box!

Here are a few simple tips to attract Bluebirds:
  • Bluebirds prefer houses on poles or posts about 5 or 6 Acorn birdhousefeet high, rather than on trees.
  • A good Bluebird house is made of cedar, heavy-duty recycled plastic, or cement (see the Acorn house, pictured) and should open easily for cleaning and monitoring.
  • The house should be mounted in an open area, away from trees or other bird houses and away from feeders.
  • Install a predator baffle on your pole to stop unwanted attacks from raccoons, squirrels and snakes.
Remember - Chickadees, Titmice, Nuthatches and Wrens are all native species too and they also need a place to nest.  We recommend that you have at least two nest boxes on your property, which will give Bluebirds and the other birds a choice.  Please respect these other cavity-nesters if they happen to choose your new bird house!
