ASK THE ADVOCATE WORKSHOP: "PREPARING FOR THE FUTURE" | | Join us for this evening workshop designed to expand your knowledge and get your questions answered by an experienced advocate. Topics include power of attorney, guardianship, special needs trusts and adult services.

AUTISM CONFERENCE IN SEATTLE | |
Future Horizons Autism/Asperger's Conference
Friday, December 2
Meydenbauer Center, Bellevue
The event will feature three extraordinary, nationally-renowned speakers, including: Dr. Temple Grandin, the noted scientist who has autism and the author of The Way I See It: A Personal Look at Autism and Asperger's; Maria Wheeler, 20 year psychology, special education, and ABA fields specialist and the author of A Treasure Chest of Behavioral Strategies for Individuals with Autism; and Jennifer Mcllwee Myers, an accomplished writer who has Asperger's Syndrome and the author of How to Teach Life Skills to Kids with Autism or Asperger's. Throughout the conference, there will be extensive resources available, as well as networking opportunities with other parents/caregivers, SLPs, OTs, PTs, ABAs, counselors, special education teachers, psychologists, physicians, social workers, etc., within the various ASD-related communities. UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY TO SUPPORT LOCAL NON-PROFITS | |
3rd Annual Whatcom County Giveathon
1-7pm, Friday, December 2, 2011
3990 Meridian Street (former Value Village site), Bellingham
Sponsored by the Whatcom County Association of Realtors
Each participating non-profit will have a table with educational materials about its cause, and many will have items to sell that make excellent holiday gifts. They have wish lists of specific items that they need including but not limited to food, diapers, coats, sleeping bags, etc. These wish lists are published on the website, www.WhatcomGive.org.
The Giveathon is free and open to the public. There will be a wide assortment of homemade holiday cookies, coffee, live music and a visit from Santa. Come enjoy the fun and support your community!

Accessing Strengths to Create Belonging and Purpose Saturday, December 3, 2011 9:00am-1:00pm St. Luke's Health Education Center, 3333 Squalicum Parkway (lunch provided) Special Guest Speaker: Joe Erpenbeck, Director of ABCD Cincinnati "How to Build a Community Based on Everyone's Gifts"
This event will be an opportunity to hear voices and stories of people often labeled with disabilities that have found ways to share their voices and unique gifts and how our community has benefited. Participants will respond to presenters through discussion about how we can expand on these stories and include everyone's skills and interests to benefit our community. |

The Arc's Holiday Open House 11am-1pm, Wednesday, December 14 2602 McLeod Road, Bellingham Join the fun! Please bring a potluck dish to share, plus a non- perishable food item for our food drive to benefit the Bellingham Food Bank.
Parent to Parent Holiday Party Co-sponsored by Down syndrome Outreach (DsO) 12-2pm, Saturday, December 10 Bloedel Donovan Park (Large Multipurpose Gym) Please bring a potluck dish to share. There will be an appearance by Santa, crafts and fun activities. |

The Youth Self-Advocacy is hosting another food drive to help the Bellingham Food Bank. Please support their efforts by bringing your non-perishables to The Arc, 2602 McLeod Road, Bellingham.

Parent Coalition

The Parent Coalition of The Arc of Whatcom County provides information and education to individuals with developmental disabilities, their caregivers, families and the community by responding to requests for assistance. We provide 1:1 support and serve as a resource to increase understanding of the developmental disability service system and special education system.
