  • Volunteers for Youth Self-Advocacy group honored

Northwest Youth Services acknowledges and honors those who have gone "Above and Beyond for Kids"

Volunteers for the Youth Self-Advocacy group, Becky Cronk, Kim Donk, and Tami Flett, were one of 5 finalists that were honored at the Annual Northwest Youth Services banquet in November.

Over 50 groups and individuals were nominated for their work with kids in Whatcom and Skagit counties.

Tami, Kim and Becky come faithfully to the youth meetings bringing their passion to empower and support youth, in addition to the projects that the group enjoys doing!

    Tropic Thunder Update

    Just Ask

Gail Williamson, Executive Director of the Down Syndrome Association of Los Angeles, Inc. writes:
I wanted to let you know that Tom, the academics teacher at my son Blair's adult day program was in Gelson's Market in North Hollywood, CA where he shops and saw a display for "Tropic Thunder" full of DVDs.

Tom went to the manager and told him that he was offended by the display and that he participated in a boycott of the film and felt it was inappropriate for Gelson's to advertise and sell the film.

He suggested they send it back.

The manager thanked him, and the next time he was in the store it wasn't there.

Tom asked the manager about it and he told him he did send it back.

We were very surprised and pleased by the manager's actions.

Maybe others can share their feelings with their local markets and retail stores.

    It's pretty easy to do.

    JUST ASK.
