  • A National Day of Listening

Create a new tradition this holiday

November 28, the day after Thanksgiving
    has been designated as a
    National Day of Listening.

    Our life stories matter.
Self Advocacy is about telling our story
and about listening to the stories of other people.

One of the best ways to show the people who are important to us that we care is to listen to their story.

This national project is sponsored by the people at StoryCorps who can give ideas about setting up the interview, how to record, what to ask, etc.

But this is a simple project-
it involves the hearts of two people,
one who is interested and asks a few questions
and one who shares their heart.
You can record it, but you don't have to...

Follow the link below to the StoryCorps website for their suggestions.

Follow your heart for a new tradition.

    Happy Thanksgiving.

Developmental Disabilities Council is looking for new members

Here is an opportunity to serve!

The Washington State Developmental Disabilities Council (DDC) is appointed by the Governor to promote a comprehensive system of services, and serve as an advocate and a planning body for Washington State's citizens with developmental disabilities.

They are looking for members that are:

    • Individuals with developmental disabilities
    • Parents, guardians or family of children or adults with developmental disabilities
    • Providers of services for people with developmental disabilities

The Council is especially interested in adding people from Northwest Washington- Skagit and Whatcom counties.

This is an opportunity to work with the DDC to improve services and expand the opportunities for people with developmental disabilities.

To find your senators' and representative's phone numbers, you may use a searchable online congressional directory or call the U.S. Capitol Switchboard at (202)224-3121 and ask for your senators' and/or representative's office.

Remember that telephone calls are usually taken by a staff member, not the member of Congress. Ask to speak with the aide who handles the issue about which you wish to comment.
