Road Show Coming to Nooksack Valley School District

Information provided about the Adult Service System for individuals with developmental disabilities

The Road Show provides information on the Adult Service System for people with developmental disabilities, their families and educators.

The adult service system can be challenging to navigate, and we would like to give parents and families a chance to ask questions about services and the road ahead.

Topics that will be touched on include:

    • Important dates and tips for transition into adult services
    • Navigating the service system
    • Eligibility and services provided through DDD*
    • Short and long term employment supports through DVR* and the Whatcom County Developmental Disabilities Program
    • Building a life for your adult child after they leave school

*DDD- Division of Developmental Disabilities DVR-Department of Vocational Rehabilitation

    Presented by:
    Jena Johnson of DVR
    Jan Driscoll of DDD
Beverly Porter, Parent Advocate, The Arc of Whatcom County
Jessica Lee of Whatcom County Developmental Disabilities Program

    Down syndrome Outreach movie night

    A question for the community.

Down syndrome Outreach has shown movies once a month for the last four months.

We are looking for some feedback on the movies to better serve the community

The movies have been on the 3rd Saturday of the month, at 6:00 p.m.
Would another day of month be more convenient?
Would a day time showing be better than evenings?
Would a week day be better than weekend?
    Would increased publicity help?
Suggestions for locations for the publicity?

    Please contact Kristy at 360-715-0170 X 307
or kristyg@arcwhatcom.org to share your comments.
    Thank you so much.

    Hunger Doesn't Take A Holiday

    The Youth Self-Advocates' Food Drive

For the second year, the Youth Self-Advocates have chosen a food drive as their community service project.

They had food donation boxes at the Chris Burke Inclusion Concert and at the Buddy Walk, both sponsored by the Down syndrome Outreach of Whatcom County.
Between those two events they gathered over 110 pounds of food for the Bellingham Food Bank.

Their food drive is continuing into December.
For those who wish to share some food with their neighbors, the donation box is located at The Arc of Whatcom County's Dan Godwin Community Center.

The self-advocates wish to thank everyone who so generously donated food for their project.

Thank you for helping us help our community.
