    Covering the Growth and Sprawl of

    • poverty
    • hunger
    • homelessness
    • poor health care access
    • early learning concerns

    This will be a moderated forum with candidates for the 40th and 42nd districts.
    They will have an opportunity to respond to prewritten questions and share their views on current social issues pressing Whatcom County.

    Forum organizers include:
    Opportunity Council, United Way, Interfaith Community Health Clinic, Catholic Community Services, and Bellingham Child Care Center

    Training Opportunity with Michael Callahan

    Come and listen to one of the most experienced practitioners at creating real job opportunities for individuals with significant disabilities and complex needs.

    Michael Callahan has been the president of Marc Gold & Associates since 1982. They are a n­etwork of consultants that provides techni­cal assistance to sys­tems, agencies and families interested in insuring the complete com­munity participation of persons with severe disabilities.

    He is an editor of a popular "how-to" book on employment for persons with severe dis­abilities, Getting Employed, Staying Employed: Job Development and Training for Persons With Severe Handicaps
    and an author of Keys to the Work Place: Skills and Supports for People With Disabilities.

    Road Show Presentations

    Coming to Lynden and Nooksack School Districts

    The Road Show shares information on transitioning to the the Adult Service System for individuals with developmental disabilities, their families and educators.

    The adult service system can be challenging place to navigate, and the Road Show gives a chance to ask questions about services and the road ahead.

    Some of the topics addressed:

    • Important dates
    • Tips for Transition into the Adult Service System
    • Navigating the service systems
    • Eligibility and services provided through DDD
    • Short and long employment supports through DVR and the Whatcom County Developmental Disabilities Program
    • "Building a life" for your son or daughter after they leave school
