    Washington Autism Insurance

    Autism is Treatable -
    Insurance should cover the treatment

Autism Speaks, together with other advocacy groups, is working to change state insurance laws to require private health insurance policies to cover the diagnosis and treatment of autism spectrum disorders for individuals under the age of 21.

For more information about autism and about the initiative, follow the link below.

    ADVOCATE

New Section 811 Supportive Housing Legislation is introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives

Critical permanent supportive housing legislation - the "Frank Melville Supportive Housing Investment Act of 2008" (HR 5772) was introduced on April 10.
This ground-breaking legislation proposes significant changes and improvements to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Section 811 Supportive Housing for Persons with Disabilities program.

Section 811 is the only federal housing program solely dedicated to assisting the lowest income people with serious and long-term disabilities to live independently in the community by providing integrated affordable and accessible rental housing linked with voluntary services and supports.

To find your senators' and representative's phone numbers, you may use a searchable online congressional directory or call the U.S. Capitol Switchboard at (202)224-3121 and ask for your senators' and/or representative's office.

Remember that telephone calls are usually taken by a staff member, not the member of Congress. Ask to speak with the aide who handles the issue about which you wish to comment.
