A Year to Focus on a Life of Service
Pope Benedict XVI has designated a Year for Priests, starting today. This year marks the 150th anniversary of the death of St. John Vianney, patron saint of parish priests.
The jubilee year will be inaugurated
this evening with the pontiff presiding at Vespers in St. Peter's Basilica.
Later this year, he will proclaim the 'Cure of Ars' to be patron saint
of all the world's priests, as a "true
example of a priest at the service
of the flock of Christ."
We at Dixon Studio are privileged to work with these good men whose devotion to God, service to the church,
and patience in committee meetings is an inspiration to us all!

I know my own soul, how feeble and puny it is:
I know the magnitude of this ministry,
and the great difficulty of the work;
for more stormy billows vex the soul of the priest
than the gales which disturb the sea.
-- John Chrysostom |
"You are Peter, the rock, and upon this rock I will build my church."
Ever since Christ told Peter that he would give him the keys of Heaven, they have been used as a symbol of the priesthood.
From complex scenes in Renaissance paintings to the papal coat of arms, the keys appear as a reminder of the establishment of this vocation by Christ himself.
This contemporary stained glass window was created by Dixon Studio as part of a series of windows depicting the seven sacraments for St. Paschal Baylon Church in South Boston, Virginia. |
